• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT-S DISPLAY/SPEEDOMETER/LED/TACH

One of the few gripes, if you can call it that, with my 2010 RT-S and now 2013 RT-S was how faded the display would get during the daytime when the sun was out. I know many of you have talked about not being able to see the turn signal lights. I also have a hard time seeing the tach and speedometer.

I don't know if this has been discussed before (I performed the search function), but there is a little trick I learned that will keep the display in what I would call "night time mode" even during the day.

I was searching for a spot to put my "suction cup" gps holder. I placed it way up top at 12 o'clock position on my speedometer (left side). All of a sudden my display went to the darker orange and black mode and I could see everything.

The drawback is that you can't see your speedometer, or the left turn signal. However, I couldn't see that thing anyways. Additionally, I rely more on my RPM'S and sound than I do the speedometer. There is also the speed in your middle LED screen.

Bottom line is that you can change the screen by covering a small portion of the speedometer screen.

That is a great idea. There is a sensing LED that tells the screen when it gets dark outside and the dash lights slowly come on.

I get to experience this in Sept and October. During the rest of the season it does not get dark (all night long) in June/July. Then the light goes from about 3:00 AM and works its way back to midnight or so. We get the 50/50 dark/light approx Sept 21. I don't do much riding after midnight--but could, I guess.

Back to the subject matter:

Not sure where the exact location is--but a small piece of electrical tape over the sensor would surely fool the panels into going to full brightness.

I don't tend too look at the analogue speedo, that's so 90's. All joking aside I only look at the digital readout for both rpm and speed. I know they are there but just never reference them.

Nice tip though I think the orange night time lights look better with the lava bronze anyway.

I've looked for the exact spot the sensor is located and while there were times I thought I knew, it turned out not to be.

For a while I figured the it was located on the screen in a one pixel dead zone.
But no.

So, where exactly is it?

Roger, I can't say with precision. All I can say is that I used one of those 1 1/2" suction cups that holds a GPS. If you are looking at your display, you have the tach on the right, the LED screen in the middle and the speedometer on the left. I placed the suction cup at 12:00 as high as I could. I ramped down the suction cup, and about 3 seconds later the "night time" mode came on.

Hope this helps.

(Let me just make sure that I've got this right...)
You're saying that it's in the analog speedometer portion of the dash; not up on top of the panel that covers it?

Bob, the only way I can answer is that on my RT you have the speedometer in the little circle on the left. You have the tachometer in the little circle on the right. You have another "thingie" in the very middle that also shows your speed.

It is placed at 2:00 where I described as the speedometer in the little circle on the left. Sorry, but that's about as good as I can do to describe.

Thanks Chris for the tip my biggest gripe is the angle of the dash lenses I usually wear Albright colored shirt, jacket or a safety vest and during the mid day brightness everything but the mechanicals gets displaced by thr reflections in the displays. I even tried subdued colors too with little measurable change. Even tried changing the digi panel contrast without success.
