New Gas Cap & Corbin Seat Gas Door

New member
I installed the new gas cap on our 2011 RT Limited. Went to the gas station to fuel up and noticed the Corbin seat gas door wouldn't close properly after puting the gas cap back on. Come to find out if the cap handle is left in a horizontal position the door hinge hits the gas cap. The cap handle needs to be vertical for the door to close. Has anyone else run into this? It's no big deal. I just need to remember to keep the cap handle vertical after refueling.

I have a Corbin and filled up a number of times.I have never had this problem. It shuts the same as with the old gas cap.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I have not yet received my gas cap but have the Corbin seat. I will pay attention when the gas cap comes in.

Gas Cap

I have a 2011 RS Spyder with Cobin seat - no problem with the new gas cap interfering with the gas latch

My 2010 doesn't have this problem. Have you called Sergio at Corbin in Ormand Beach? 800-223-4332

Mike

Strange that some have the issue and some don't. I didn't remove the seat locking pin so the seat cannot be moved back. I wonder if the seats not having the problem don't have the pin and are moved back a little further. Or possibly there are some slight differences in the door latches.

I have an RS-S and I just bought the comfort seat from Can Am. I will let you guys know if I have this issue when I can get out to the get it installed.

New gas cap with Corbin seat

Just to throw my two cents in, I too just received my new cap and installed it on my "winterized" Spyder RT with the Corbin seat with the gas door on the side. The door closed with no problem. After reading the problems some people were having with the door hinge hitting the gas cap, I went back and turned the cap in several positions, closing the Corbin door each time, still without the door hinge hitting the cap........

Any experience yet with the door on the Ultimate seats?

What's this "locking pin" thing all about?

RE: Locking pin--the thingy that keeps the seat down until you turn the key to release it for fill up or other under the seat maintainence.

When installing the Corbin seat--some of us removed the shock mechanism as well as the locking pin and just leave the seat unlocked since we don't have to raise the seat to fill the :ani29: with gas.

I also found that the hinge hit the new cap if horizontal ,but 2 clicks and it clears it fine, what's the big deal?:dontknow:

It's no big deal. It just caught me by surprise on my first fill up after replacing the cap. I closed the door then noticed a one inch opening at the front of the door. Rotating the cap to a more vertical position allowed the door to close completely. If the cap handle is left in a horizontal position the door hinge hits the end of the cap handle keeping the door from closing all the way. I just have to remember to leave it vertical after refueling.

New information on Replacement Gas cap sand Corbin seats

I cent to my dealer today with the Spyder, a 2011 RTL. THE SERVICE PERSON agreed that there was a raw gasoline odor coming from it. It was suggested that I call the 800. Number in the accompanying paper work and make BRP aware that problem is not going away any time soon.

Today I put 3.199 gallon of fresh fuel in and the smell is back. When I parked the RTL IN THE GARAGE after riiding home a distance of 5.4 miles it was reeking of fuel odors, I had to crank up the box fan to clear the area of gasoline I removed the NEW CAP and re-inspected the NEW CAP finding some foreign debris on the red oh ring seal. It came off with a tooth brush scrubbing. Wiped the filler neck stealing surface clearing up a small area of foreign debris off of it. It felt like rubber particles. But I cannot prove it. This makes two times I have found a debris field on the cap and filler neck sealing surface.

the gas door on the Corbin seat interference is a duplicatable problem but a simple extra turn fixes the problem.

Until we have an answer from BRP I wIll probably continue the swap and switch routine until the probleee goes away or the Spyder RTL does..

Locking Pin - Seat raise lock

What's this "locking pin" thing all about?

It would be my gues that they are referring ot the key operated seat latch device that has to be released to tilt the seat up so that on a conventional seat you can fill the gas tank and service the underseat items. Those of us with aftermarket seats still have to raise/tilt the seat to get to the battery and brake cykinder

Can-Am versus Corbin Locking post problem

RE: Locking pin--the thingy that keeps the seat down until you turn the key to release it for fill up or other under the seat maintainence.

on our RTL! We opted for the Corbin seat in stead of the Can-Am I wiggle around to much and the Corbin sits just like a good western saddle and I can sit in one of them all day long, Shortly after we had ours installed we went to raise the seat to do something under there. And the seat lock ,post would not let go. so off to the Can -Am dealer. service manager listened to my tale of woo and went xox it, inserted the key, pushed it While turning and lifted the seat right up. several months went by and I tried it with moderate success. THen one day it would not open This time I went to cC robin. Service tech was the seat installer, he tried it and finally got it open . We left and for months it would an would not open. Open for me! It did it again so went back to Corbin same tech but this time he found the problem, I'm sure! If your seat refuses to unlock every time check the two rear mounting bracket bolts and you will probably find one that is slightly loose. They are a pain to tighten so be sure to take a patience pill. Before attempting. He confessed to my spouse that they had just figured out the cause of the problem.
