There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Myrtle Beach Spring 2009

Looking for advise for Spring Bike week. Of course with Myrtle beach new laws I am staying in Garden city as apparently many are because there is very few hotel rooms left. I have found it is as cheap or cheaper to rent a house over hotel room but they all rent from Saturday to Saturday. The question is if I have to head home on satuday am I missing much or is there a lot of others heading home on saturday? The few hotels available have opening until sunday but they cost around 900 bucks and the house we are looking at is only 600 plus cleaning fee of 80 bucks. Regular hotel room versus 3 bedroom house in gated community which likes bikes, 4 queen beds, 3 bathrooms, water to wash bikes, full kitchen, yard, large deck right on a lake or pond depending what you want to call it. Seems like a no brainer choice but I hate to miss saturday night but I bet traffic on sunday morning is terrible leaving town.

Just wanted some advise from the veteran bike weekers.

Make sure you go to Suck Bang + Blow for a Monster burnout inside Bar have done many in there on my HD.s but a :spyder:will fit in there since it is a garage during the regular season never new you had to were a respirator to be a bar tender until I went there what new laws ? events like this I never stay more than 48 hours would rather ride

The city of Myrtle beach has passed a bunch of new laws to try to run off bikers. Helmet must now be wore inside city limits, new noise restriction which the only thing that will pass is stock, no vendors inside the city and on and on. It does not seem to be doing any detouring seeing how all the hotel are already selling out for bike week. We go to SBB evey night while there, both the origional and 4 corners along with all the other fine establishments. We just start early and visit each one every night. I hate to leave a day early because I bet the last saturday night is the wildest night of the week.

Wow I guess none of the local establishments won't be getting any of my hard earned money anymore more Ive only gone twice but was thinking of goin this year again its a eleven hr ride from Ct.and make it there nonstop except gas on my glide but was thinking of trying it on :spyder:

reason...

Actually,

Bike week costs the city tremendous amounts of cash as Memorial Day is traditionally a family holiday. With that being said, bike week doesn't generate cash for local vendors...hence the changes...

Families come and patronize the area much more than bikers. You don't see many Harley riders at Barefoot Landing buying gizmos and gadgets for their kids.

I own property in M.B. and I've seen this debate go on for a while...the people there don't like bike week...it costs them too much money...they'd much rather have family business...

Just my two cents...

Well I wrote a big response to this based on my past year or reading every bit of info about the bike week including breakdowns of cost to police verses income from tickets, vendors and taxes but decided to leave this one alone and deleted it. The city might be a pain to the bikers so everyone will slowly start staying outside the city but they will stil be there for years to come.

I think if it was moved a week before Memorial Day, the residents wouldn't mind as much...

They're losing the first weekend of summer...and losing a lot of business...

Biker business is great for bars, but they don't necessarily make good vacationers. The noise sends a lot of locals out of town for the weekend and familes won't go with all the bikes, etc...

We are talking about 2 diffrent bike weeks here. I am refering to the spring harley week as some call it and not the black bike week which seems to be where the complaints are. Harley Bike week is before Memorial day. The Black bike week is memorial day week.

Based on my last 2 trips and my money spent I see it as:

We are good for bars but also good for the sold out hotels (I have been looking and over 3/4 of hotels are sold out for Harley bike week) and we have to eat so we are good for restaraunts, we need fuel so we are good for gas stations, gotta come home with souveniers like t-shirts with bike week on them, most of us have kids which stay at home with the grandparents while the adults are at bike week that would skin our heads if we did not bring home somthing for them which is good for souvenir shops. I shoped at 3 diffrent grocery stores in the fall week for snacks to keep at the hotel good for grocery stores right.

I spoke with several police officers and state troopers in the fall and they all said in a round about way the Memorial day rally is what started the trouble. All it took was a few bad apples to cause trouble. The harley week as well as the black bike week both have some bad apples causing trouble but the real problem we were told by the cops is the harley week is spread out over 20 square miles which keeps the few trouble makers spread out so problems are minumal but the black bike week is crammed into a tiny are and the trouble is amplified with everyone being in a small area.

It will be a long road for both Myrtle Beach and the bikers, I hope we can all work together and have fun and continue to pour money into the area. For now I am going to keep my money in the county and surounding area's until the city getts everything settled.

Gotcha...true...

The local population is more concerned about the Memorial Day biker situation...

Ever get to Martinis? Great restaurant...if you haven't gone...make a reservation and get there...you'll love it!

I did see several Spyders at the fall rally this year including 2 red ones at Broadway at the beach, one silver one at the Harley shop in north Myrtle, one silver one at the Harley shop in South Myrtle and one silver one at Suck Bang Blow 4 corners. I bet there will be even more at the spring rally. I also bet there was a bunch in Daytona this weekend (dirty dogs).

South Carolinians have a problem with "Black Bike Week" but not the other????? hmmmmm.... Thousands of bikers ascend upon a city and the city loses money?? I guess all those bikers brown bag it and bring their lunches, and pitch tents and sleep on the streets. No restaurants or hotels, or bike shops, or any of the tourist shops there make money???? I find all this hard to believe...isn't Myrtle Beach a tourist destination? so when tourists come, or a certain "type", the city and it's residents have a problem with it??? I'm a 34 year old white man and I find it hard to fathom. On the outside looking in, this looks bad for Myrtle Beach. It quite plainly looks racist. The hotels and restaurants revenue alone should be a giant cash infusion for the city. I've gone to "Black Bike Week" several years with my "black" friends and it's not any different than any other bike week. Bikers showing their love of biking and respect to other bikers. I hope I'm wrong but this looks ridiculous and simply bad on the part of Myrtle Beach...

Just got back from Daytona a little over a hr. ago. I only seen 1 red one, the one I was on. But must have seen about a dozen yellow and grey ones. Seen 4 at one time, mine was one of them, at Corbin, not counting the 2 Corbin had.

I have a condo in Garden City and go a few times a year. I love it because it is always "Summer" compared to Toronto :). I was only there one Bike week and didn't really take to it much. The Golf Courses were just about Empty though, so that was a bonus. They really like Golfers there (Tonnes of Golf Courses, ya know) Most of the Bikers don't have room for clubs so....hhmmm maybe rentals???? The Pink Pony did a pretty good business judging from the bikes outside. I guess it is a mixed bag, but most of the tourist places (Legends, Opry Land North, even House of Blues (surprisingly) were not very busy. Local bars make a buck, but street vendors, more than the City Shops are raking in the $$. I'd love to won a gas station or Motel though ;). Not an "All ya can eat" Buffet though, us Biker Dudes can really eat a lot for out $14.95
