There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Tire survey...

Just wondering what everyone is getting for tire life. I got about 10,000 miles from my first two rears and about 19,000 on my first set of fronts.

Dealer said 19,000 on my front tires was very good. What is everyone getting for tire life?

ALL 3

ALL 3 gave me only 9,000 miles...
went to the KUMHO's.... front have a UTQG RATING OF 660 and the rear is 440... currently have 17,000 on all 3, and only the rear is showing wear....

Stock fronts we got 34,000 & could have extended them, but I had uneven wear that I didn't catch soon enough, so I just kept rotating them every 6000 til I just replaced them.

The 1st stock rear tire we really really pushed it & got 21,000. The 2nd stock rear only had 13,000 on it, and it was still looking good, but we had to replace it due to it having a 1 inch cut in the center of the tread.

Just replaced all 3 & decided against going with stock again, and instead went with General Altimax's all around, so we'll see how well these fair for us.

My oem rear tire was getting a bit too low on tread for me by the time it reached 7000 miles.
the Falken that i've got on the rear now has almost 5000 miles under it's belly, and still looks pretty much like new!
Fronts: one with 7000 and the other with 5000 miles; it's tough to distinguish between them, based on tread depth.

I just changed my rear yesterday and I had 20,000 miles on it and I think I got around 18,000 on this last set of front tires. I went with the Kumho again on the rear and OEM on the front. I've got 52,500 miles on my RT and I am on the 3rd set of tires on the front and I think the 4th on the rear. I know i didn't get very good mileage on the first set of tires but I'm getting better now. It pretty much works out to a new set all the way around every year for me. I guess I ride too much!

Tyres and Vehicle Insurance

With reference to fitting none OEM Tyres (OEM it states for motorcycle use ) and with the fitting of Car type tyres on the Spyder
What happens in the Canada/USA States if you were to suffer an accident - Would the insurance company refuse to pay out
because of the non-standard tyres being fitted

I am sure in the UK the Insurance companies would use this to either limit or dismiss any claim - We are supposed to notify them of any changes made to a vehicle They call this duty of disclosure

Copy from my Insurance company

You must advise us immediately of any material facts that may affect the terms of the policy
These include (but not restricted to) change of address, Changes to the vehicle, new drivers, changes of occupation, medical details, convictions and licence details, accidents or losses

Failure to disclose all relevant facts could invalidate all or part of your policy, If you are in any doubt as to whether certain facts are relevant or not please ask

I am sure if we ask they will check with BRP who would always advise against fitting non-standard Tyres not designed for the Spyder

Just interested in how this works for Spyder riders over there

It would make sense to me that if the tire were the correct size and rated for the performance (such as a Z rating here in the states for "racing") of the spyder then there should be no trouble. Then again you can never trust an insurance company to not split hairs over something like that. One reason I am unsure is that I am not sure whether or not or tires are steel belted radials. Another reason is that I am not sure if the design of these tires is more like a motorcycle or a car. I believe they are more like car tires, as there is no "leaning" involved in cornering and therefore they do not require a rounded tread surface.

I have always run the OEM tires on the 4 :spyder2:,s I have owned. I consistently get 15,000 miles from the rear tires. I have experienced 15,000 miles out of the front tires on the first two :ani29:,s. I got 23,000 out of the last set of fronts on the 2010 RT'S. No tires yet on the 2011.

when our bike went in the garage for the winter it had 23,000 miles on it...the front show no signs of wear and the rear will need replaced in the spring these are the original tires that came with the bike when new...my wife always rides with me so its not like it is only dragging a single rider...i am probably a gentler driver than most...the bike has never been over 80 miles per hour and we dont get carried away when driving it...i have to replace the front in the spring and have no clue as to what kind of tires to replace the back tire with..if i can get that kind of mileage out of th e oem tires wonder how many miles i can get out of a better tire...if any one knows of a good grade tire for the rear please let me know....

TIRE EXPERIANCES

What I've seen first hand is this ....I have two Spyders a GS and an RSS....the GS wore the inside edges first., (on the front)..The RSS however is wearing very even and I expect to get 30,000 from OEM front tires....My conclusion is ..if you have near perfect "Front Alignment" your tires will last a long time ....even the Kenda's.........The rear needs to be run on lower air pressure to get even wear....i.e. 23 lbs or so.......or switch to a car tire...they have stiffer side walls...JMHO.....Mike

I agree to lowering the pressure on the rear tire. Manual says 25 to 27 psi but if you run it that high it will wear too much in the middle. I dropped my rear tire pressure all the way down to 15 psi and that helped even out the wear.

I have 27,500 on the front, still good for afew more miles. REAR tire replaced at 17000 miles, it is wearing faster than the 1st rear tire will replace the rear again at 12 to 14000 on it.

Interesting that the rear is ready for replacement when the bearings need to be repacked.. I'll chalk it up as perfect timing.....
