Has Anyone Had Sales Or Service Issues With Dealerships In Iowa,Minnesota & Wisconsin

Since I'm considering a new purchase of a '13 RT-S I'd like too know if there's dealerships worthy of a visit or not. I live close too both Minnesota and Wisconsin

I had some very good service recovery from Metro Harley in Cedar Rapids when my new 2012 RT blew up. (fluke deal) It may be further than you want to drive but if not, thought I would mention that they have done very well for me.

So how serious of a mechanical failure did your new Spyder suffer? A "Harley Dealer" sells these?

Very strange deal. At 86 miles the cam chain let loose. Had it three days. Not happy to understate the issue. BRP said that chain had to be defective out of the factory and that in their experience catastophic failures tended to happen in the first 100 miles and are extremely rare. Metro and BRP did come through. Gave me a loaner for about a month, put in entirely new engine. Did some other things to compensate me and make me feel confident in their support. Picked bike up from my house, delivered loaner, did the reverse. Bent over backwards to make sure I was happy. Have certified tech and he was going to school again this fall so they are investing in training. That is really important. By the way, the bike now seems to run perfectly so they have demonstrated quality work.

Yes a peculiar situation. Hmmm I'm not sure I'd want to drive all the way down to CR. If I had a similiar situation happen to me would they Metro drive say 150 miles or so to Decorah to fetch my bike? I doubt it. Glad though to hear that both Metro and BRP stood behind their product. Are there any Spyder Clubs nearby you?

Agreed, you have a ways to travel. I'm just not familiar with any other dealerships. Not aware of any clubs but hopefully We can find a reason to get something going. NE Iowa is a great place to ride, lived in West Union for a very short period of time. If you get your bike we should take a spin when it warms up.

Yes, the weather has been holding me back on wanting to take a Spyder for a spin. The closest dealership is: 2 Brothers Powersports, located in Onalaska, Wisconsin. A North Suburb of LaCrosse. That's about 55 miles or so away. I'm currently a member of GWRRA, but the closest chapter is Mason City thus I've never attended any of there functions. My closets riding friends believe it or not ride Harleys. I could never see myself on one of those. Prior to being interested in a Spyder I looked into Triking my Wing but too spend another $12.5K on a '08 Wing seems impractical to me.

I understand. My last long ride of the season there were 13 Harleys, a Honda and my Spyder up to Gays Mills. Everyone had a lot of questions and were very complimentary of the machine. If they are truly friends, they won't care what you ryde and will probably be a little envious of the comfort in which you will ryde. Let me know if you have any other questions, am happy to help if I can.

Mora Minnesota Dealer

I am in the process of buying my second RT S from Caswell Cycle in Mora Minnesota, they have been very good to work with and very fair about any of the issues I've had with my first RT S. They also sponsor several rides thru out the summer for the Minnesota Spyder Riders Group. Very nice people also.

Seeing your message I was curious too know where Mora, MN was. Wow a little ways north of St. Paul. Considering how far I drove for my present bike what's a couple hundred more miles right. Bought my present bike at "The Hitching Post Powersports, Hopkins,MN. Are the Minnesota Spyder's Rider's group largely located around the twin-cities?

I certainly have asked alot of questions tonight concerning the Spyder especially since this is my 1st day on this site. Another came to mind so I thought I'd ask you as perhaps you have the answer. Are heated seats avaliable on any of the Spyder models? I guess I'm spoiled as I certainly enjoy that feature on my Goldwing.

RE: Heated seats. Not available through BRP. Corbin makes an aftermarket seat that can be heated. About $1000.00.

:agree: I don't have one and I suppose it depends on how cold of weather you will ryde. At about 40 I had to quit but not due to seat temp. You are very well protected from the wind on an RT. What I read on this site about Corbins sounds very good.

First-off, I just had to step in and mention the fact you are from where the famous Decorah Eagles are located. I suppose you have heard of that site? If not, it was pretty cool.

Hope you find a dealer you can trust. It is important to deal with a good one from beginning. If the Onalaska dealer is the closest, then I would go there and begin talking with them. Let them tell you about the Spyder and their dealership. You will begin to get a feel for how they operate and how prepared they are for servicing Spyders.

I spent hours at the dealer I eventually bought from watching, and listening to what was going-on. So far it paid-off and I am not having any problems.

Also, be sure to test-ride a Spyder before buying. It simply is not going to be like your other rides were. They have their own personalities, and "quirks", for a lack of a better word. Make sure you are going to like it first. Some actually do not like the Spyder; while obviously, many do (me included).

I have owned motorcycles for years, and still have a HD Ultra Classic. I bought my Spyder due to a back injury so I could ride while it healed, and for my wife to eventually learn to ride on her own. I have had a few problems with it; but so far everything has been fixed, and it has not left me stranded.

Good luck -- and consider buying in the off-season, if possible.

I got mine at JayCox in Worthington MN. I have had very good luck when dealing with them and when BRP refused to stand behind their advertising, JayCox stepped up and took care of the issue. Their service has been good and reasonably priced. There were no funny charges (freight & setup) attached when I purchased mine. I am quite satisfied with them.

Based on Farmbanker's experience with Metro Harley in Cedar Rapids and in my experience in talking with them, I will be purchasing my 2013 Viper Red RT-S from them and not from the dealer in Waterloo. Metro is about 50 Miles from my house whereas the Waterloo dealer is only about 14. Let's just say that the dealer in Waterloo, while they carry Spyders, wasn't all that enthused about having any on the floor or selling one too me.

Tony, you will certainly be happy with Metro. Glad to hear you got to know them. Look forward to seeing you ryding in this neck of the woods!

Yes, I reside in that famous Eagle community. The latest off-spring haven't faired as well as past years as two of the three young eaglettes was found electricuted. From what I understand a reliable source is that Mom & Dad Eagle now have a 2nd nest nearby both very close to the Trout Run Fish Hatchery. Wether the video cam will go back up in the spring is a good question.
I like the recommendation coming from "Farmerbanker" about Metro Harley, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa being a stand up dealership. I was hoping some Spyder owner would ring in about thoughts about 2 Brothers Powersports in Onalaska, Wisconsin if not I'll take a chance anyway for a visit.

Tony; I'm glad you rang in about your opinion concerning Leer's. I had given them some thought as a alternative. I guess I won't bother now. Did Metro have much of a selection of neww and used Spyder's? By the way do you happen to know the hourly shop rate at Metro? Thanks Jim
