extended service agrement

I normally do not buy extended service agrements and with the spyder coming iwth a 2 year warranty didnt think anything about saying no but now they have me wondering the sales manager at the dealership called and asked today if i was sure i didnt want another 4 years for 1000.00 making a 72 month warranty. so i guess what i am asking did any of you buy it and was it worth it or do you feel the 2 yrs standard is the best deal and use the 1000.00 for mods?

You can wait just about until your 2 year warranty runs up before getting the extended one...at no penalty as well (according to my dealer)...

I'll definitely get it...better to be safe than sorry, IMHO!

The BRP waranty has unlimited miles/hours. Some deaelrs are offering there own waranty though.

just remember they wouldn't offer it if they didn't make money. I agree that I never consider these but the spyder is making me think. I just hate the fact that this is the biggest money maker for dealers...still need to think about it

You might want to check why the dealer is pushing so hard. With the BRP B.E.S.T. warranty, you can purchase any time before the original warranty expires. You do not get the included road service with the original warranty, however. We paid about $900 for three additional years for the BEST plan. With all this electronics, it is hard not to do so. If it also helps the dealer stay in business, so be it.

Shop around. $1,000 for the BEST warranty (the one without roadside service) is high. Hint... dealer cost is a little less than $600.

And, don't confuse the extended factory warranty with a "service plan" which some dealers are pushing.

AFAIK, the longest extension BRP offers is another 36 months... on top of the original 24 months. That's 60, total, with unlimited miles.

Now, IMHO, the factory extension, depending on price, is definitely worth it as the Spyder is a new, first-year product. I bought the BEST w/o roadside service. I did not, however, purchase a "service" policy as I can do a lot of the routine stuff myself.

I'll be purchasing the B.E.S.T. coverage. No question. $800 for an additional 3 years coverage is cheap insurance as far as I'm concerned.

Yes you can wait and get extended coverage any time during the first two years, but the price is not guaranteed. While it may be $600 - $1,000 now, BRP will follow its warranty cliams costs and if they see exposure, they will quickly raise the price of extending coverage. Unless their warranty claims experience is excellent, chances of the price going down are probably not good.

They are only as good as the dealers acceptance.
Make sure you completely understand what they pay and the dealer acceptance. Could be a big difference.

I got everything they had to offer. The best plus extended waranty. (3 years). and the three year service contract. The waranty was a $1000 and the service contract was $1400. My spyder is in the shop right now for the shift sensor, the parking brake failed and the brakes were load, that stuff has been fixed. A few tune ups and a valve adjustment and the service contract has paid for itself, and with all the issues the spyders are having, there is a very good chance the extended waranty will save you alot of money down the road.

My wife works for an insurance company, and she won't let me buy an extended warranty...she thinks they are not worth the money. Service contracts are good though...

If the price of the warranty goes up, that does not bode well for our Spyders...it means they aren't made that well!

I have enough brake squeaks, grinds, and moans right now...I'm going to have a nice list of things to be addressed at the 600 mile mark...

Because the Spyder is in it's first year production and seeing some of the troubles it's giving some of us, I think it's a good idea to get the extended warranty. I did and have no regrets what so ever! I have this FEELING that it will pay off in the long run because it seems a bit expensive for repairs.

Just came home with my new one today and we had not planned on purchasing the extended (4 extra years) warranty. Our dealer was not pushing the BRP but had quoted another company's for $1599. For that price we declined. But when we told them that, he dropped the price to $1000 saying that he had sold enough of them that he was almost to a "bonus level" and that it was worth it to him to offer it to us. We ended up taking it - we usually don't keep our bikes for more than a couple of years just because we've got too much time to look at new bikes and even when we think we've gotten "the one", the love of our life, another new one comes along and fickle folks that we are, off we go again. BUT, we figured the extended warranty would be a good selling point if/when we sell or trade. The only concern I have is from my experience as an HVAC contractor. At one point in time, TRANE company was the first a.c. company to offer 10 year all parts/all labor warranties and the were sold through a secondary insurer. Well, to begin with the insuring company was really bad about paying me as the dealer and there were so many rules that the owner and servicer had to go through to get the claim approved that very quickly I refused to sell anymore. Then, a couple of years in, the insuring company went bust and left everyone holding the bag for the balance of the warranty. I didn't want to alienate my customers who, in good faith, had purchased them. But on the other hand I certainly didn't want 8 years of "free" repairs and parts. It took a long time but eventually the Trane company stepped in and made good. There were others companies selling similar ones, though, that said any dealer would honor them, but since I wasn't involved in any way (not my customer, not my equipment) I refused to honor them because they had set hourly and parts reimbursement rates that didn't even cover my expenses. So hopefullly the company that sells the one I bought today will be around for awhile.
