• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Winter riding Gear

Well, I purchased the First Gear Thermosuit from Motosports and I have to tell you. It was an excellent choice. Tonight coming home it was only 44 degrees out and I hit the highway at 75 mph and never felt a chill. I had my short sleeve uniform shirt and uniform pants on under it but no extra layers. I also added my Turtle Fur Balaclava (sp) and my leather winter gloves and I was perfect. So for those looking for a good deal on some really warm riding clothes I highly recommend this suit. Also, it is 100% waterproof. Here is the link where I purchased the suit http://www.motosport.com/street/product/FIRSTGEAR-THERMO-1PIECE-SUIT/?prodId=508379&nav=&sMMY There are other sites that have this suit if you can't find your size or the color you want. They do run long so if you are tall, this is a great way to go.

Next winter purchase before too long at these temps will be my heated gloves.

I fixed the link in my post. I also got the suit on the sale price of $79.97 from Motosport, which it is at again today. That is a heck of a deal. I thought 143.97 was a good price for what this is. I love this suit and it looks like I'll be wearing it a lot this week.

Thanks much.....great deal. Ordered one for myself and one for my passenger. Couldn't order online; the second suit kept showing up full price. Called the toll free number and got both for the $79.95 each price. Super nice people to deal with.

Motorsports has changed the price of this suit on their web site to $144. I plan to call them tommrrow to see if they will still sell at $80.

Does the inside of this suit allow for body armor?

I don't see an official place to add body armor to the suit but you could always wear a thin jacket or shirt that has body armor in it under or over the suit I suppose. I just know that it is going to be down in the 30's the next two nights when I leave work at 3:00 a.m. and I will be very glad I have this suit.

When I ordered mine two days ago, it was listed as a one-day special. The website price was changed back to $143 yesterday.

I have to thank you for the price that I paid on motosports. $79.99 and free shipping after I added $20 more of stuff from his site.

We'll use our Hein Gericke suits complete with body armor, wind & water proof. They are good for year round riding. Put the liner in for cold riding, take it out for warm or hot weather. I rode 350 miles started out at 33 degrees with just a sweat shirt & jeans and perfectly warm. Now the bad part $1000 a set - $600 jacket, $400 pants.

You are welcome but I don't know what I did. I just posted a good product (in my opinion) for folks to be aware of. I hope everyone that orders this suit loves it as much as I do so far. It was 38 degrees coming home last night and once again, I stayed plenty warm at highway speeds.

By the way, just to give you all an idea of how these sizes run. I am 5'6" tall with a 29-30" inseam. I weigh 225 lbs and have rather big hips. I ordered the large size. It fits but I wouldn't want my belly to get any bigger and the legs are quite long. I just pull up the legs and tighten them around the boot and promise myself I will lose weight, not gain any. LOL

I picked up some "UnderArmour" ColdGear pants and top for use under my pants. Granted its just starting to get cold, but a night-time run to Trader Joes in mid 50's they kept me warm. I just need to block the wind from my neck and get better gloves.

My bad. While on vacation, you got a great deal on First Gear suit. I need one and missed out. I'll keep looking, but won't likely find anything under $100.00.
Good for you, Deb.

P.S. Gonna freeze here for first time this Fall tonight. It is already clear and 40 at 10PM. We have first fire in fireplace for the season - long time until Spring. (smile)

SOLD: If anyone would like a 'Large' First Gear Thermosuit from Motosports, I bought two and only need one. (way too big for Cindy) It's never been opened. I would like to get the $80 I paid, plus whatever shipping is to your location. If interested you can PM or email.

Thanks... j

My approach to winter riding is a little different:Protect the body first: motorcycle jacket with protection to back, spine, shoulders, elbows and pants with butt, privates, knees and road rash protection.
Full face helmet, motorcycle gloves with knuckle and wrist protection, and motorcycle boots to protect feet and ankle.

I dress in breathable layers to stay warm and use heated grips.

My approach may seem extreme to many, but I try to minimize my risk while maximizing my reward and joy of riding motorcycles and the Spyder.

Dress for the crash and not the ride.
