LED strip brake lights/turn signal wiring...

After seeing Custom Dynamics TruFlex LED strip brake lights....well, after seeing the price lets say, I decided to make my own. They work great, but I am wondering if there is anyway to wire them to work as turn signals as well. I believe to use the ones Custom Dynamics sells as brake lights and turn signals, you need their Triple Play kit. Anyone know if this can be done easily?

Not that hard. Get a 2 pin factory harness connector with the tap in. I know tricled has these. Run a wire from your mirror mounts down, under the a arms to the lights. Tis is assuming there is nothing else powering the lights. If there are, you'll also need a wire with a diode to prevent back flow. I know you can get both these from tricled, probably for less than the custom dynamics turn signal kit.

I'm actually working on the rear. I have my LED strips connected to the brake lines, so that they come on when I hit the brakes. I'd also like them to blink with the rear turn signals. I just don't know how to make them work as turn signals, when the brakes are applied.

You'll need a diode to prevent back flow as perviously mentioned. Same thing you'd need if you we're doing a running/brake light combo.

Thanks for the info! I assume the diode goes inline with the turn signal power? Could you give me any information on exactly how to set this up? Much thanks!

Call Reggy at tricled. Tell him you need some of the wiring with the diode for the running/brake light combo. Double check with him if it will work for your brake/turn signal setup, though I'm sure it will. Tell him I sent you. ;)

Setup is pretty easy. The cable looks like a "Y" the bottom part you'll connect to your lights. The one of the others will connect to your brakes, and the other to your turn signals.

If the lights are on your front fenders, you'll need a 2 pin factory wiring harness, if these lights are on the rear of your bike and connecting into the brake assembly, you'll need the brake connection wiring harness. 5 pin I think it is. Reggy should have both of these. You'll need one for each side (left and right). You basically unplug the connection going to the exisitng lights, plug the harness in between these two wires you just unplugged, and connect those into the cable with the diode then off to the lights. I think the colors on the brake connector are red, white, yellow, brown, and black (not necessarily in that order) I know the yellow is your turn and the white is reverse. Black is ground. Red and brown are your running and brake lights. Not sure off the top of my head which is which. You'll plug one of the wires with the diode into the yellow, the other into the red/brown (whichever one it is), the tail of the diode into the positive on your lights, and connect the ground from your lights to the black on the harness.

You know I had some jerk nearly run me over at a stop light last night, then proceed to tailgate me whilst doing 70 in a 55 even though there was no one in the lane next to me and could easily have gone around. It eventually pissed me off so much I quickly swerved into the next lane and hit my brakes hard, planning on getting behind him and opening all my lights up to max. But he hit the brakes too. After that he gave me a wide berth. At night I run with my brights off and my adaptive lights just on enough to light up. The adaptive lights are bright as the sun when fully on. If I got behind this guy, he would have been sorry. You don't tailgate a motorcyclist. Especially not one with a kid on the back.

:gaah:Too bad that his plate number wasn't avaialbe... Doesn't tailgating like that fall under some sort of Road Rage category?? :gaah:

can u tell me how u did this

i have been trying to do this same thing on my can am but when i hit the brakes the led lights turn off

led lights

well at least you guys got some lights working I bought some leds over a month ago and cant find a soul locally to install them as no one wants to work on the spyder since they never did before and I,am a Dummy when it come to electrical work Rich

Rich,
YOu're better at it than me!
Important thing to remember with LEDs...
They're fussy about how they are hooked up.
A regular bulb will light as long as you've got power and ground hooked to it somehow...
LEDs need the correct negative and positive hookup to work.

The seller normally will mark them for you, but having a way to test them is a good idea.
No Fear!! :2thumbs:
