• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. FLAMES SHOOTING OUT OF THE GAS TANK

BLUEKNIGHT911

Sadly Passed Oct 2024 - RIP
So I stop to top off my tank and do all the normal things, I put the nozzel down and touch the rim of the opening and pow a flame shoots out of the tank about 6 inches and just burns in a ball ....WT%^F ....Luckily I hadn't activated the handle so no gas was coming out other than drips from previous user. And I was wearing gloves so I just put my hand down and the flames went out. but this scared the sh*t out of me to say the least. Has this happened to anyone else?????. I didn't think it was possible...I thought the pumps were protected from pump to vehicle sparking ?. I am going to contact the State Agency that monitors/regulates the gas pumps and inform them of this occurrance and see what they think......My Spyder and the pump/gas station could have exploded ????. Am I being too melodramatic here......Mike....:gaah:

Sounds like a static discharge for sure. As far as being overly concerned. Hardly!!

WOW! Never seen that. Maybe the static discharge came from you. You should always take the nozzel with one hand and the other on the pump. I had that in auto saftey class in high school.

Mike

WOW

That's something I never was aware of. Maybe the old hand pump on the farm was a good idea.

Hope BRP doesn't make us put grounding straps on the Spyders.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Holy Crappola!!!

Phew Mike so glad you and Spyder are fine..other than maybe you used up 1 of Kiki's 9 lives..again very glad to hear only a bit SCARY :yikes::yikes:

HOLY CRAP, I missed the show by minutes. Glad your ok. Maybe if the first pump you went today worked this would not have happened. Glad to hear you are not going to have to buy that RS-s.I do think these pumps are normally grounded to prevent this, but I recall someone catching fire filling a plastic jug in a truck bed liner not too long ago. Keep in touch, Steve

I believe that slide-in bedliners can create static sparks and that you should never fill a can in the bed of a truck, always take the can out and set it on the ground before filling it.

It's not as uncommon as you think, For some reason you wheren't grounded or the pump wasn't, There's been a few gas pump fires started by static electricity.
Some fires have started when someone will fill a extra gas can on the tail gate of a pickup truck, instead of filling it on the ground. Were you wearing rubber boots.:dontknow:

Boots only.

If you read his post about his riding gear, he says NEKED, boots only.

With the humidity in Vermont at 50%, surely could throw a spark is everything is not grounded. Sure glad you are OK. Like someone said, always ground your self to the pump before grabbing the hose.

Holly molly, glad your ok and had the calm to put a gloved hand over it to put it out.

I've seen too many movies, I would have dived over the bike done a couple of roles shouted GET DOWN! and laid flat on the forecourt floor covering my head.

scary stuff.
