New Exhaust Pipe

Hey guys,
Im a new spyder roadster SE5 owner. I went out and bought myself a carbon fiber free flow exhaust pipe and got it fitted to my spyder. After i did this i spoke to the dealers and they said i should only fit spyder accredited pipes, otherwise my engine could run too hot and damage my engine. Is there any truth to this? i noticed the heat gauged has gone up one bar on ave. In traffic it now sits on the 5th bar, and at speed it is on the 4th bar. Is there any danger to my engine at this heat?

I think not. There are many types of aftermarket pipe owners on this forum and I haven't heard of any major engine issues due to the pipes. You may end up needing a fuel management system (juicebox pro, power commander, etc.)

When I put a glasspak on my wife's spyder, that was my dealers recommendation. He didn't say anything about engine overheating and there hasn't been any.

I dont think you will have a problem. I have put lots of different pipes on mine with no temp issues. Mine ran stock 4 bars to 5bars with fan kicking in at 5.

5 bars isn't overheating, 5 bars is normal.

thanks so much guys! i just think that the dealer wanted me to spend more money on them by using their exhaust.
They told me once i rode 1000km on the trike that i must bring it into them so they can run it on a machine to test it.... i dont think im going to waste my money on that anymore :yes:

It is a pity that your dealer uses these scare tactics. An aftermarket pipe won't make the Spyder overheat unless it ends up running way too lean, which is unlikely with just a change of the muffler (silencer). In the US, that act cannot void a warranty (unless it is proven to cause the failure in question), but South Africa may be different in that regard. Some research may be in order to see how much power your dealer actually holds.

The 1000 km (600 mi) service is required to maintain your warranty. The warranty agreement you should have signed says this specifically. The dealer will put it on BUDS to check for error codes and update the firmware if necessary. I urge you not to skip this important step. There is more to a service call (especially the 1000 km servicve) than merely changing the oil.

I didnt make it clear enough. I bought my syder 2nd hand ( with 10 000km). They said i should take it back to them after i have done 1000km with the new exhaust pipe for them to run a check on it. Do you think this is necessary?
Iv recently had a serviced about 2 months ago.

Another question, i changed the oil and oil filters myself after the service. Is it necessary to take it back to them to get it plugged into the computer again? Because they said it was needed.

In that case, there is certainly no need to do so, unless you are having problems. Their answer will just be to go back to the OEM pipe, anyway. There is absolutely nothing they could do to tune it up. They are trolling for busines, IMO.

taking a spyder to the dealer of your choice. if you buy a used spyder and know nothing of its history, the least that could happen is you will get the latest update, and a service history if it has one, probably worth it to do before you buy.

Thanks for your info guys! One more thing, i called the dealer and they have now changed their approach. They said it will probably need a tune after fitting the free flow pipe (in case it runs too rich or too lean). Is this needed?

Some do, some don't. You will know after you ride it a while. The dealer can't tune it conventionally. You would have to buy and install a Juice Box or Power Commander to change the fuel mixture.
