• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

18 wheelers

After awhile you will recognize which trucks produce more turbulence than others. You will also estimate their speed because the faster they drive the more turb they create. In the summer, the air is also hotter! The standard square lined trucks and boxes will create the most. Some trucking lines now put aerodynamic lines in the front on top of the roof, and in the back of the trailer for fuel economy (wish we could do that). These produce the least turb. Soon you will associate who has what, even subconciously. I prefer staying in the fast lane when I ryde alone, depending on traffic of course. Living in the hot desert there is a lot of junk lying in the slow lanes from truck tires. The two lanes on the right will tend to have a broken surface, even the cement ones, caused by the heavy vehicles. Spyder ryders do not like this. When traffic increases I will move to the most middle lane looking for escape routes. And look out for the fast boys coming behind you. Many do not drive defensively!

last serious encounter with an 18 wheeler i dont remember much buffeting but i do rember thinking OH CRAP just as i relised he wasnt stopping at the stop sign and then it was just very painfull until the ambulance got there. theres not much give in a kenworth when u slam into the side of it i seriously dont recomend it at all :lecturef_smilie:

When I'm passing an 18 wheeler I make it as quick as possible. And I stay as far away from it as the number of lanes will allow. There's going to be buffeting from them no matter what you do...get past it as quick as possible or stay as far away from it as possible.

It's good advice if you can..On places like I-75 which is just loaded with semis you are constantly in their company.

never get on an interstate that will help a lot and you will enjoy the scenery much more. when Eisenhour put in the interstates we could travel coast to coast and border to border and not seeanything take the secondary highways and see everything. Capt Jim

A much as we hate ryding behind or next to them, I'm glad they're on the road. The more trucks, the better our economy. The better the economy, the more Spyders are sold.

I agree with DOCRORU on this one!

While I am still waiting for my boat to come in  and still waiting to finally get my future RT :(. My 32 years on the road riding several two wheelers (9) has led me to understand the effects of riding near or past all trucks! Trucks, regardless of the size or shape create a vortex behind and to the sides. Some are worse than others. When behind a large truck give yourself a six to eight second count more than the standard two second count for the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. The reason that I use this rule is that if the truck in front of you suddenly must reduce it's speed quickly the vortex behind it will suddenly collapse and the resulting vacume will actually try to"pull" you and your bike towards the the rear of said vehicle. When passing a truck ride as far to the outside of the lane next to the truck and be prepared for the wake off the the front that will try to push you further outside or away from the truck. Practice make it better! PS As DOCRORU indicated tanker/grain trucks and those car haulers are the worst! Even more so when the car haulers have pick ups and/or SUV's on the top level!
