• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

A Noob question

I just purchased a used 2010 RS SE5 and am looking for oil.

I have read the handbook and it states not to use anything with an SM API on it.

I have found a synthetic 5W40 with an SM, SL/CF on it. The handbook say we can use an SL, but am concerned about the SM on it as well. Can I use this oil?

If not, any suggestions where I might find the correct formulation? I live in Windsor Ontario, but will travel into Michigan to pick up what I need.

Thanks for any and all help!

Amsoil 5w40 motorcycle oil meets all of the requirements and so does the full synthetic Castrol 5w40 motorcycle T4.

Renaud in Harrow has the BRP oil. Both the blend and full synthetic. I don't know if Tilbury Recreational carries it or not. If you really get stuck, I have some quarts in stock for my next oil change.

Thanks for the tip!

I will give Renaud a call today. As good an excuse for a nice ride to Harrow as any!

There are many oils that are correct, Just don't use one with a SM.
The SM oil will/can cause clutch slippage, The Spyder has a wet cluch.

I use a special blend of Canola Oil and Panda tears. The spyder loves it. I also fill up the tank with pure awesome and sandman powder.

Sorry, I enjoy being foolish.

:joke:

Took some advice

I contacted Baja Ron and he has been excellent with his responses. So nice to be part of a community that helps!

I am fresh out of Panda tears, personally, so I will just have to go with the oil and filters recommended by Ron.

Many thanks to all that responded!

Handbook says 5W40 for the RS SE5. I know so little about oil. (okay, nothing about oil) What is the difference?

To make it simple;
The 5w is a little lighter, The main reason i used 10w40 is because the 10w 40 is easier to find in most any brand, Nothing wrong with using either.

5W-40 is a little lighter (lower viscosity) at low temperatures. It has virtually the same viscosity as 10W-40 at operating (high) temperatures.

I bought the Amsoil from Bajaron on this forum. For us Canucks it is shipped from Mississauga so fast delivery & no taxes/duty.
Will buy it again next time as well.

Amsoil 10W40 100% synthetic, wet clutch compatible. API SG SL/CF/CG-4.
