• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder no start and check engine lite on

Last week had problems with Spyder. Turn key on and inst cluster blank for about 10 seconds then comes on and check engine lite on. managed to fool with a while and got it started. Got home pulled cluster to check connector and terminals ok. Put some dialectric grease on conn and worked fine for about a week. Stopped to eat today and would not start. same problem. Talked to my Dealer and gave them the codes it had. P0600 and p1514. He said he would call it in to BRP. headed home stopped to get gas and you know wouldn't start. Same thing. Fooled with about 10 min and got it started. Got home pulled cluster to do some checking. checked wiring diagrams and checked relays. I could hear and feel the #2 relay clicking so switched headlite relay and #2 relay and started right up and guess what no headlites. The #2 relay is bad just the headlite relay was a while back. I have switched all the relays except the big main #1 rerlay. I think we should carry a spare relay in the trunk.

Ok you have my attention. I am still waiting for my Spyder. Do I need to buy a repair manual also? How does one know which relay, where they are and so on? Where do get a spare realy - are these general automotive style relays you get at NAPA? Keep up the great info. Those of us who dont have our Spyders yet, or have not had a problem yet soak this stuff up like wet sponges. By the way, a picture along with your description will help us newbees out a great deal.

I have seen others post here that they also have had bad relays. Since the Main relay #2, the headlamp relay and the fan relay are all the same, I recently stopped at my local electronics distributor to see if they could find this particular relay. I wanted to buy a couple extras to have on hand. These are Tyco, VJ28-95F74 SO 1 12VDC After looking thru their catalogs, and making a phone call, they told me they could not sell this relay since it is an automotive manufacture's relay, :dontknow: :banghead: :cus:

I guess this means they can only be purchased from BRP :dontknow:

What did the dealer say the code P0600 and P1514 meant ??? What was the price of the relay ???

Based on information provided by another forum member, I went to Advance Auto Parts and got a GP Sorensen R3110Z 41-5100 relay for $8. It fits the main, headlamp and fan relays slots. I have not had to replace any yet, but having a spare is cheap insurance.

Yep, could to keep a spare.

Wsup BRPjunkie,

I've always believed in curing the cause, not the effect. So, knowing that the relays are problematic, 1) why isn't BRP issuing a recall or sending replacement parts? 2) What's causing the relays to malfunction :chat:? Poor craftsmanship and sub-standard manufacturing should be promptly addressed :chat:, not accepted as the norm.:chill:

There is no way a problem that would completely immobilize my :spyder:(when I get it:)) should knowingly continue to exist!

I would carry a spare, just like with fuses. This will keep you on the road, or get you home. If a relay fails, report it to the dealer and have him replace it. This will get it in BRP's system, and maybe they will find a cure. They certainly can't fix it if they didn't replace it and are not aware.

I did report to dealer and they are ordering a relay to replace the one i replaced. Of course it will be a spare.

I purchased the same relay this morning. ( I knew this couldn't be rocket science). Just nice to have a spare, and not have to worry about these three circuits with a faulty relay.

Just a comment about the different sites. I posted the exact same post on the other site and there hasn't been one responce to it. I think I'. done with them. PS and there Chat sucks anymore.

Other sites....

I agree - I am outspoken most of the time, many time others do not agree. That is no problem, but it is nice to have a response and feedback. I can only compare things I know about to my local area and experiences. But like you say, at least here on Spyderlovers.com, it seems like more spyder owners are present than the other sites put together. Hats off to Lamonster for putting a fine site on the net, and too all members for being here!

I was recently asked by the site administrator there not to post cross-links to this site. I'm betting that I was not the only one, either. :dontknow: Check out the number of cross-links here...quite a difference, isn't it?

I told them I would not post the same stuff twice (this site is home for me)... and that I would be in stealth mode from then on... I would view there only so that I could learn. <He didn't seem to care, BTW>. I then started deleting most of those posts.

So there you go.... absolute silliness at its best. And... here I am.
