iPod interface does not seem logical

I have an iPod dedicated to the Spyder, its one of those older (in iPod terms) 60gb color video iPods.

It contains about 30 plus play lists, it hooked to the RT through the cable that came with the spyder.

Sometimes it will repeat the same playlist over and over and over and over again, other times it will finish one playlist and move on too the next.

I have yet to figure out what makes it do one or the other seems random but who knows.

Next puzzling thing it seems to only rotate through 4 playlists. Today, before I started the spyder I started a playlist playing on the iPod, started the spyder and it carried on playing the playlist it was last playing when I turned the spyder off.

I know that signal quick push either moves to the next track or back wards, a long push moves it to the next playlist, but again it only playing 4 of my 30 plus playlists.

anyone else have this issue?

what I'm I missing.

The ipod controls are utter crap unless you want to do anything than play a single playlist or shuffle all the songs. They really need an overhaul to the iPod controls.

IPODS

I have a little Nano or what ever it's called that one of my grandsons gave to me when he got a newer one. I have 400 songs on that bad boy and the controls on the Nano are what determin how it plays back, not the Spyder controls. I just select shuttle on the crazy little control and let it rip. I'm happy as can be. Hope this helps, cause it's all I know about it!!

Yes, but you have to stop and get off the Spyder to control anything beyond volume and next/previous track seeing as how the iPod stays in the trunk.

According to the owners manual, the ipod interface is only compatible with certain ipods, The video ipod is not listed. So, you will have to just put all the songs in a playlist, or not have a playlist and see if it picks them up.
My ipod nano works great. I can pick different playlist and songs, etc. Pretty sweet.

Hey, at least you RTers have an ipod option! Back in the days of 2008, with a model called the GS, integrated ipods were a far distant technology! Some ipod is better than no ipod, IMHO.

Actually, I can hook my ipod up directly to my Garmin G4, but I wish I had an integrated system of some sort. I can't even get my zumo to play nicely with my iphone...

:banghead:

I have the newest iPod nano. I have had other iPods of various generations all the way back to the 3rd gen video iPod and iPads. All function identically on the Spyder. The spyders ipod implementation is lacking fundamental capabilities normally common on iPod implementations in other vehicles.

What can I say

My experience is similar to AMH, with one small exception. I'm not as riled up about it.

The only thing I can't find and really want is the pause button for the iPOD.

Sometimes, on long rides, there are times when I'd prefer just silence. I would just like to turn the iPOD off for a while, and then be able to turn it back on again.

I'm not all that concerned with the shuffle controls, although AMH is correct in his description.

:gaah:What where you thinking, you made me read a manual, now I feel guilty watching the Red Green Show. :roflblack:

Acutally that's was a great link, I was not aware of the long set menu option and apparently neither are are some of the can-am techs. I was at Americade talking to a couple of the techs at the can-am demo truck about it. They went over the iPod integration on my bike with me, I asked if you can display the playlist, they said no, you can just forward and back through them.

Thanks

Harry

I've got mine in the shop now while they try to figure out why it can't recognize my I-Pod as anything other than a mere MP3 player... :gaah:
I'll let you know if it works any better once I get it back...

Everything is in one file - all 400 of em. Filled up the 4gb thing and takes 26 hours to recycle.

As I said, works for me.

I agree with you J, it is crap. I wish they had a plug-in in the front but I can understand why they didn't because of the liability factor, but no more a liability than what Detroit has. I recently installed the RAMount X-Mount for iPhones. Very nice. Now I have control over my phone which I plan to use for navigation. What BRP provided was bunk. That stupid cable in the rear trunk that doubled back from that block (which does what I don't know) just letting the phone dangle was horrible planning. You would need the BRP shelf (another piece of junk BTW) to keep it from dangling and unplugging itself, or velcro-tape to stick it on the wall. I hope in future models they consider the entertainment factor more on a TOURING bike. There isn't even a place to stick a map. The glove box is a joke. Right over a hot pipe? Get serious. I would like to see a bigger display, maybe a USB port, a plug in, both 12V and maybe a mini jack in place of the analog gauges.

I really like RAM Mount btw. Its like Legoland meets the erector set.

I like to load all my favorites into a single playlist then have a few others I like to listen to just occasionally sitting around. However, let's say pink floyd suddenly gets played, and I feel like hearing more of them. I have no way at all aside from pulling over and popping the trunk, to select play all by pink Floyd, or just select the album "the wall"
This is basic functionality for an iPod implementation, and it is missing. It would also be nice to know what song is playing without having to hit the mode button. There is plenty of room on the display. No reason this couldn't be implemented as well.

Not exactly what you want but if you created a playlist called "Pink Floyd" and then put all Pink Floyd songs in it you could play them all. Mine I can change the playlist from the controls by holding the same button that changes the songs down a little longer. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, but you lose the shuffle function when changing playlists that way.

Yea I found that out so I just make sure when I create the play list I have the songs in some random order that way it doesn't really matter if I loose the shuffle. My big wish would be able to pause the music. If I have my Garmin hooked up and my iphone if I turn the volume down on the iphone it turns the Garmin down also. If I could pause the iphone if wouldn't be a big deal.

I have never used shuffle, to me a playlist is meant to played in the order you specified in the list.

I would like to see what you see in most modern cars, a way to display the playlist and choose the one you want.

Going to try the HOLD set button while stopped to see if that works
