• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Russell Day Long vs Ultimate Seat for RTS

I am considering getting a custom seat for my 2011 RTS-SE5. I've been looking at the Russell Day Long and Ultimate. The regular seat on the RTS is probably great for many people but I have a "boney butt" for lack of a better statement. Both seats appear worthy. The only thing that bothers me about the Day Long seat is that you have to send them your seat, so no riding until you get it back but it is custom made to your specifications.

Was wondering what others with these seats have to say and why they picked what they did.

Many thanks!

we use a kontour seat which has some nice airflow through it. We also find it much more comfy than the stock RT limited seat. You would also have to send them your seat to be fitted. I would recommend their website for some good info.

Seats are a personal opinion and choice...without having the benefit of trying each one for a decent period of time its really a crap shoot IMO.

I have had the Ultimate seat for about 3 weeks now and love it. I to have a boney butt. if you would like to see mine click on my mods link below. it takes about a month after you order it to get it. I have my old seat put up in box with plastic on it. not sure what to do with it. I have no regrets on buying the Ultimate seat.

I have a Russell on my GS. I've had it for 30K miles now and I love it. I can ride all "day long"(pun intended) with no ill effects. I understand your reluctance to give up your seat for a 2 week period. When I had mine done, I bought another seat on the buy/sell thread here and sent it in. When I got my new seat, I sold my old one. So I missed 0 days riding. Russell will have you send the seat about a week out from your build date. The build takes a couple of days and then they ship it. BTW, they will ask for a couple of pictures of you on your RT indicating riding position along with your height, weight etc.

I looked at the Ultimate seats at Spyderfest and they look like a very good seat. I would think you would be happy with one of those as well; but I know you will be happy with a Russell. :2thumbs:

Here is a suggestion for what to do while your seat is being made. Ask someone like Grandpa Spyder who already has an extra seat to ship you his old one to use while yours is being made. Pay him for round trip shipping and you won't lose any riding time while yours is being made.

Fliight Risk, I noticed you list an Airhawk, does that improve the stock seat in your opinion, I have one on order.

heard so many great things about them but interested to hear your side as your obviously still looking for better options.

Harry,

I now have the AirHawk on my office chair. No matter how much air I let out of the AirHawk seat it put the top of my windscreen dead center of my vision line. I like to ride with the windscreen all the way up. I also ride with a large group of two wheelers and they LOVE twisties. Even with the AirHawk lashed down I kept a nagging feeling that I was going to slide off in the never ending twisties this group loves. For "normal" riding I think the AirHawk would be a blessing for many people. The trick is to find just the right amount of air to have inside that pad. You can release more of the air quickly at a stoplight without getting off of the bike.

The main reason I was looking at the Russell Day Long seat is that they build it specifically for your "seating pleasure". Even though I have long legs (34" inseam) the current "butt bump" on the stock seat is just a bit too far back for the more aggressive driving we do. Even though my arms are slightly bent when holding onto the handbar grips, I feel that if the butt bump were about 1"- 1 1/2" closer to the front of the seat it would be more advantageous. I feel like I am stretching too much with my arms when we are digging into the corners.

I wish BRP made risers to bring the handle bars back just a bit.

Decisions decisions. SpyderAnn01........good suggestion!!
