• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

acknowledging other oncoming bikers

I am thinking it is a regional thing for sure. I am up here in Wisconsin which is the birthplace of the HD and home of the oldest HOG chapter (House of Harley is just up the road from me) so I can see where there would be some "attitude" in my area. They do an annual "Honda drop" from a 50' crane so I steer clear of that so as to not get it changed to a "spyder drop!"

I generally wave at em all. No biggie to me if they don't return a wave. Heck, most of the time, I give em a wave and I never even look to see if they fire back. But i think most do. I just do it out of habit and joy of being out there. Their loss if they aren't just as happy. Definitely won't ruin my day in the sun!! ;)

+1 :ohyea:

This past weekend while riding in the Aderondacs after Americade I noticed that a lot of larger group rides (7 bikes or more) would approach and only the last bike in the group would ack our wave.

Yep, That's the way it's done, If all 7 started waving it can lead to an pileup!!

From what I have noticed most HD riders do this "drop the left arm down as they pass thing" so you can see it if you look in the mirror. Must be their secret wave. Personally I'm out there for my own enjoyment and treat ALL others with a courtesy nod and smile. Whether they see it or not I don't know.:f_spider:

That's the wave I get!! Looks like the HD guys have a "national" wave they all use...

I always waved to all bikes when I rode a sport bike. Have not changed since I got the Spyder. I wave to all riders and don't worry if they don't wave back. They may be confused when they see the Spyder and don't know what to do;);););)

Now that you let the cat out of the bag we're going to need a new secret wave.:roflblack:

I get waves from most bikers of all types especially if I wave first. Some just raise the fingers of the left hand rather than letting go of the handlebar. That's easy to miss. Sometimes you can't wave safely like in the middle of a curve. Watching the road is first priority! If I don't return your wave, don't take it personally.

Weeeelll, let's c ...

if I can remember waaaay back to the 70's when I was a young babe n my 20's and owned a Harley Sprint with extended front fork tubes and a hard tail seat and u had to "kick start" ur ride to get going. I ONLY rode with other Harley riders and we allllll thought we were a pretty elite bunch of bikers and more often than not, looked down on other non-Harley riding types. Of course, we were young and wild and free, and it might have had something 2 do with our age, but I don't think so. The Harley mindset is pretty much set in granite and they can be eliteist, but so can the BMW crowd, however, with that being said, if you pass a Harley rider without his buddies you can usually get a low 5. Maybe ....

I get about 80%.

I wouldn't necessarily assume the lack of a wave from any rider is due to the fact that you're riding a Spyder. Some bikers simply don't wave to anybody.

Dr.philgood

this question has probably already been asked, but for all us new riders, what percentage of "harley boys" acknowledge and greet all you spyderlovers when they meet you on the road?
i'm curious!:dontknow:

Precious few, IF THEY ARE OLDER GUYS WITH THERE WIVES ON THE BACK THEY ACKNOWLEDGE YOU SOMETIME. BUT MOST HARD CORE HARLEY GUYS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT. I THINK THEY ARE INSECURE. HARLEYS' HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT GOING ON WHEN COMPARED TO MOST TWO WHEELERS. THE SPYDER IS SOMETHING ELSE. ENVY MIGHT ALSO PLAY A PART.

I'm not getting that on the west coast Phil. Seriously. I did a Jackson Ca run from HD dealer to HD dealer and they are a talkative bunch...and since it was a memorial run, we're appreciative of my support. It's the region. Spyder drop? Oh crap noooooImageUploadedByTapatalk1339715634.882238.jpg

Talking about waving, how many cc do you need to earn a wave?

I am asking this as I never see anyone waving at scooter!
:roflblack:

We were talking about ackn the other day and one guy asked why...do you ackn cars if you are driving in your car? He feels that riding a bike does not make you best mates and does not signify "membership" to anything that needs you to ackn other riders. Makes sense...I think. I am just a happy guy that likes to ackn other riders and do not ackn other car drivers.

My grandad used to wear a hat and would always tip his hat at passers by whether they are walking or riding...one day he visited us in the city and after trying to tip his hat at every one on the very busy sidewalk...just gave up with a sigh and commented on how many people there is and how unfriendly it is in the city.

Makes my day when i make their day.

Also if i see a biker on the side of the road that looks like they need help' I'll stop and offer help.

I gotta agree with Philgood, maybe 50 to 70% wave when they are riding alone but in a group of 3 or more I almost never get anything and if they are a large group they stare str8 ahead :roflblack: Just about all sport bikes do nod to give V sign though. So no problem with that. Goldwing are very receptive too. Just my observation in Los Angeles.

In Connecticut I feel the Harley Or riders with No Helmet or gear tend to Not wave Much? I could care less- Its not like I,m
going to have diner with them? I don,t initiate a Wave and if someone waves I Give them a Nice Nod of the head!!
I ride to Grove on music and enjoy my inner thoughts?:yikes:

:bowdown:I'm right there with ya. I only acknowledge if anyone does first. It's funny here in VT. On the weekends very few give a wave. I would say maybe 5-10%. It's even lower with the guys on the bikes with the large front fairings. Victory's I think. I don't think I've ever seen a gesture from them. I personally think they are the ugliest things on the road. But, what do I know?Weekdays it's probably around 80%. Not much to think about when listening to Primus, Planet X or Dream Theater (ticket music). When I wanna drool it's Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Josh Groban etc.
