There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. gas fuel smell

I've searched through these threads and not really found an answer, or an explanation that I can give my dealer about the gas smell. I just got my 3K check up and everything is fine. According to the computer. According to me... when I stop or just slow down and go into a lower gear, I get ALOT of gas/fuel smell. The guys who ride behind me even smell it. The tech acts like I'm just paranoid. Said he ran it and never smelled anything. Is there anything I can tell him to do or look for - I am taking it back in 09/02 so they can fix my leaking trunk.

You are not paranoid, or dreaming. Lots of us have the gas smell. Nobody seems to know quite why, although the way the evaporative canister is piped makes the most explanation. Sure doesn't meet EPA requirements this way. Our dealer has been just as good at ignoring the problem, although they did finally acknowledge the odor. "That's just the way they are." doesn't cut it with me, when the smell can be overwhelming, and even nauseating. Keep leaning on them, as we will, and maybe eventually they will take notice.

Thanks I will keep leaning. I will be there (at the dealers) all weekend for their annual open house and bike show on Saturday and a poker run on Sunday... I'll make sure someone is behind me to smell the fumes!!

That's a good idea. The Spyder demo team will be at my dealer Friday and Saturday. Maybe I will lean on them, too.

I'm not saying you have to but the trunk leak may be something you can fix yourself in a few minutes by adjusting the trunk latch pin so its a little shorter. That way, the trunk weatherstripping gets compressed a bit more and can help keep out water.

I agree with you on that Scotty. I don't get that gas smell very often but when I do, sometimes its overpowering. I've had to open my face shield (full face helmet) while riding on occasion to get enough fresh air. Otherwise, I might have been getting sick on the side of the road. :barf:

I would do this if it were the weatherstripping. :agree: Unfortunately, it is the horizontal seam in the trunk that is leaking. BRP is aware of this and they are repairing mine.

Ahh. I was hoping for you that it was something quick and easy. I heard that people with that problem were having to remove the trunk and put silicone caulk on the seam.

If my dealer told me "that's just the way they are" on any problem I had, I'd tell him "let's make this one the way it should be." Don't have much patience with lazy service departments, especially when it's under warranty.

I suggest that anyone who is has the fuel odor write to the EPA and voice your concerns. I can guarantee you will get results ! BRP needs a candle lit under their butt before they get off it !! Nothing works better than notice of an investigation and possible fines.

Look under EPA, Title 2, Emission Standards for Moving sources.... Motor Vehicle Emission and Fuel Standards.

While I agree that the dealers should be more responsive, and that as a result BRP could be aware and should then take corrective action, I can't agree with this approach. At least not as anything but a last resort. The last thing we need is for EPA to ban our Spyders, and halt sales in the US. Nobody in a state with emissions testing needs the hassle of having their vehicle red-flagged, either, and on the list of every inspector to watch out for. Better that we lean on the dealers quietly, until BRP gets the message.

Gas Smell here also, My dealer has also smelled gas on his SpYder. His brother, head of service is "checking into it". So maybe my dealer will lean on BRP also. Oh humorous note The dealer lost both of his keys.... LOL - got it going now but not sure how. found the key or replaced the ing. not sure...

:agree: I will let you know what the dealer here says this Saturday.

I also have a VERY large gas smell, when in traffic its real bad, and when I stop you can see the fuel vapor out exhaust against the sun light. Upon further investigation, I found the rear cylinder intake is badly back firering into the air box, flames included. I even foulded out two rear spark plugs, I hate the dealers non-shalont attitude. I know this is going to cause premature engine failure as the engine bucks hard when it happens, been to the dealer several times, at the dealer right now. bike has 1400 miles. I truely suspect tight valves. It even has engine oil puddling in air box. I've had less and herd less problems with my 66,000 mile BMW MC. Look at your exhaust system under bike, mine is purple.

I too have smelled the fuel smell, which is kinda rough when it is hot. The source of this is a tube coming from under the seat from a vent. I think I have a fix. I took some I believe 3/8" hose, which is run in place of the short hose. this was run to the rear of the Spyder and vented out from under the rear fender pan. This so far has worked for me. Good luck...........:doorag::2thumbs::yes:

Gas Smell

I've noticed this on my Spyder as well. It seems to come from the evap canister (part of the emission package I believe) on the right side of the motor see the picture I attached. It is the tall canister next to the rear cylinder just above the clutch housing. I have a appointment with my dealer this week on another issue and I'll ask him about this. I'll post my results.:dontknow:
