• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

developing a problem

out ryding today and my gs is developing a miss right a 4000 rpm, kind of a dead spot. i think this has been coming on for a few weeks. also got a couple small backfires today. i use only shell reg. seems like it's using more fuel lately. i would say it needs plugs, and or wires. turned 5000 miles today. what do you all think?

Plug wires.

2008 RS acted the same way. Thought it was bad fuel. Tried lots of things, just kept getting worse. At dealers for 1 week while they waited for a new plug wire. $149 later they had it changed. I suggest you order a set from Bajahron now so you will have them on hand.

exhaust gaskets :f_spider:

:agree:

Is it hot today? Mine backfired a lot when I was down in Cuba when it was in the 80's. Could be just the heat.:dontknow:

If you're getting extra heat on your legs and feet, then for sure it's your gaskets. Swapped mine out around 5K. Make sure you use Honda gaskets.

''Y'' Gaskets, Is my first thought, But if you had any reason to touch the spark plug wires i would look there also.
They are very easily damaged and if they are they'll sometimes show up as a flat spot at certain RPM's

oil change

did an oil change this morning, but i didn't touch the plug wires:popcorn:

What exhaust and intake filter are you running. BRP y gaskets are only good for around 6,000 miles IMO. Change to Honda ones.

This is what I'm thinking as well Coz. When did you install that HM exhaust ??? Before my O2 mod I had the same issues.

I have also noticed my Spyder runs like crap when it hot out, but purrs like a kitten when it's cooler. This has not changed even with my new exhaust gaskets, plugs and wires.

Replace the OEM O2 sensor with O2 modifier (and flash ECU= disconnect battery for 20 min).

THIS PROBLEM

All of the above are great suggestions...but I would start at the bottom of the food chain.....GOOD GAS....Then go from there..JMHO,Mike

exhaust has been on since last july, roughly 3000 miles ,bike has always run great until recently. even in very hot weather.going out right now to try different brand of gas.

If you had your pipe on that long with no issues, then now I'm leaning towards exhaust gaskets.

Run some Marine Stabil or Seafoam through it, just to make sure. Gas from a different station is not a bad idea, either. Beyond that I would also suspects Y-gaskets, or a sensor issue...if you don't have HIDs. If you do, the ballasts would be suspect, too. All the above advice is good advice.

+1 on the Seafoam.... good stuff.

The 4,000 dead spot is a pretty common complaint and many of us 'solved' it with the o2 mod, juice box or power commander. But since yours was running fine before... then something has changed.

I'm not familiar with anyone having HID's cause such a problem.. but I suppose anything is possible.

Usually HID interference causes other strange glitches... limp modes... DPS errors, etc.....

different gas

just re filled with b p reg. everything seems to have returned to about normal. i never would have thought that. spyder seems to run good on any fuel. maybe the switch to summer blend?
i will deffinately look at the ''y '' gaskets and change them since they're about due anyway. i'll also add some seafoam TODAY.
thank you all very much for your advice, this forum is a priceless resource:thumbup:

y gaskets

y gaskets appear to be ok. couldn't feel any leakage before pipes got hot. would it be real obvious?

LEAKAGE

COZ, blowing smoke on the joint helps to see if exhaust gas is leaking out....sometimes holding a towel on the tailpipe will help make it more noticable.....Mike.....

exhaust gaskets :f_spider:

Ditto. the two RS I have had have a weak spot right above 4,000 rpm. When the exhaust gasket goes it gets a lot worse. I just changed mine for a Honda gasket just to get ahead of what I knew would be a problem.
