• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

How to wash Spyder?

Washing the beast

When I wash my Spyder I use a very select mixture of cool mountain spring water, unicorn tears and eye of newt. It reanimates the bugs and they help clean like in that disney movie and in sorcerer's apprentice.

I have to wear a little wizard hat and talk like Hermine Grainger when I do it though. And laugh like Mickey...

OMG! As I was reading all the different suggestions, I thought....what have I started here? Tons of different answers, and no two the same..... I suppose the oil thread you guys were referring to was the same!

I do appreciate all the different suggestions of products and techniques. I will have to see which products I can locate, but I think the take-away message might be that there are probably lots of different products that will give a good result, combined with some common sense!

And that as long as you're pampering your Spyder , nobody here will laugh at you......well, unless you really work for it like zrc!
 
wash your spyder.. Hmm, well there are some good suggestions from people on here. Rainwater unless you drive into A: the salt flats or B: 3 inches of overturned class 5 have a heavy rain.

The only times have had to wash my spyder.

I would say that I am in the vast minority on spyderlovers and there is some good advice in this thread.
 
I use clean water in a bucket, one wet and one dry microfiber cloth. I go over the Spyder with the wet one and dry each portion with the "dry" cloth. My Spyder is not a "show piece", so I just try and keep it "clean", not detailed. To many of you it would be considered dirty, but to me it's clean enough.

Once cleaned, Turtle Ice "wax" is quick and easy to apply.
My RS-S looks fantastic in few minutes! :clap::clap:

:agree: All the Turtle Wax Ice products, polish, detailer, etc. work marvelously. They are the only products I use on my bikes and collector cars.
 
My problem is I don't have access to a water hose. I was wondering if you used one of the car washes where you wash by hand and skip the pressure phase and just soap it down wipe it with a soft cloth then use the soft water drizzle rinse wouldn't that work?
 
I hate those self serve washing stations. You never know what is embedded on that wand that you are wiping all over your nice finish...

I use a carwash all the time with no problems. The one by my house does a great job and leaves no spots. :doorag:

I too don't have access to a water hose, so I go to one of those coin operated car washes. What I do is use the rinse (no soap) to wet it down, then an automotive type cleaner (don't remember the name) to clean it off, and then rinse it down again. Then I wax the bike, and all I have to do is go back to the car wash place to rinse off the dirt and wipe off ever so often.

Just make sure you do not use the high pressure wash, and keep the nozzle about three to four feet from the bike. The purpose is to rinse off the bike, and not blast off the dirt. High pressure will chip off the paint, as my brother learned this the hard way.
 
Here's how I wash/dry/polish all my bikes.

1. Use a soft towel soak in very hot water--use that towel to just lay across bug splats on the windshield and body work. It softens up the mess and it just rinses off.
2. Spray the body with water and wash with car cleaner.
3. Dry using a leaf blower. All the water blows off and you also get rid of water in all the hidden places.
4. Use Plexius on the windshield
5. Use lemon pledge on the plastic body work. Pledge works AWESOME-and leaves a streak-less shine.

That's it--no fuss no muss! :ohyea:
