There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Vent Blocking Plate & FanCan Install - Was this a BIG mistake?

Let me preface this by saying I do not have a lot of miles on my RT Limited (~700) and only one day with the new Fan Can and Spyderpops vent blocking plate.

Here are my observations -

Prior to installing the ISCI FanCan, the Spyderpops vent blocking plate & Catalytic converter heat shields the heat from the Spyder was quite noticeable when stopped in traffic but not so when moving. This and posted comments here on the forum is what led me to do the mods. I also noticed the digital outside temperature indicator displayed reasonably close to the actual outside temperature.

Yesterday I completed the installation of the above items. This morning the outside temperature was 68º when I left on my 38 mile ride to work. After the first 10 miles I began noticing extreme heat coming up the right side of the Spyder and the Tupperware was quite warm on that side. Then for the first time with the Spyder I merged into rush hour traffic on I-66, which on some days is a terrifying experience even in a car. I didn't pay much attention to anything other than traffic the rest of the way to work. By the time I reached my office my right foot that was on the factory riders peg was painfully hot and took a fair amount of time for my shoe to cool down. The engine temperature gauge seemed to indicate a normal range. I did not notice the digital outside temperature indicator.

Coming home I was much more aware of and paid close attention to heat and temperature. The outside temperature was 82º. The digital outside temperature indicator read 84º when I left the parking lot. I could immediately feel the heat coming up around my right foot. After about 8 miles or so my right foot was beginning to get hot and the digital outside temperature indicator was reading 98º. The engine temperature gauge was reading ever-so-slightly above the 'normal' position and very hot air was coming up the right side of the bike right under the driver foot peg. The right side Tupperware was VERY warm and there was a continuous stream of hot air blowing up through the gap between the front of the seat and the small storage compartment. It felt like a heat gun or a very hot hair dryer. This continued all the way home. The digital outside temperature indicator never went below 94º, even on the open road at 50 mph. The heat coming from under the bike up around my right leg and right side Tupperware was horrid. My foot still feels warm 40 minutes after getting off the Spyder.

So, bottom line, and my point is that I NEVER (in my first 650 miles) experienced this kind of right side heat or heat coming up under the seat blowing right up the front of my body. It's logical to expect the heat to go under/inside the Tupperware even with the bottom splash plate removed as the air from the radiator gets directed that way, especially when not moving or moving very slowly. However, it did not change even while I was moving. The hot air continued both onto my right foot and up through the seat gap. The side effect to me as a rider and my toasted foot and ankle was so bad I'm seriously thinking of removing the FanCan and vent blocking plate before I ride again.

Anybody else experience this?

On the installation on the fan can do you put a hole in the plastic on the bottom?
Do they have you remove the one plastic plate on the bottom?
I have been thinking about doing the same thing but now want to be sure it is effective

please keep us posted

I removed the bottom plate. There are no instruction for putting holes in anything. It wouldn't matter anyway as the Fan Can directs the air in toward the center of the Spyder and down through the gap where the bottom plate is removed.

I went to the instructions to see how it would install.
I see it blows the hot air into the center of the bike
I am far from an expert but that would appear to "keep" the hot air where you do not want it.

i will wait for others to rely on how well it works for them but this would not be my first choice to put the hot air.
blow it straight down and cut a small hole in the plastic would blow it under the bike.

interesting.

Very odd

I ride in all weather conditions including 100 degree days and I have none of the issues you describe. I wouldn't be without my fan can and Spyderpops block plate!

Sorry it isn't working for you though.

Is this how the inside of the 2010 & 2011's look? Maybe there is something different.

Here is where some of the hot air comes from. It's like a heat gun blowing.

Could it be that with the lower panel gone air is entering from the bottom, blowing over the exhaust pipes and pushing that hot air up toward the seat and glove box. My glove box has an insulated insert so obviously the factory recognized heat in this area as a potential problem. Solution might be to wrap the exhaust pipes up to the catalytic converter.
