There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Anyone ever buy a wrecked Spyder and repair it?

I've been looking for several years to buy a can-am spyder. I've chosen it because of a injury I have that prevents me from riding a motorcycle and I LOVE snowmobiling so i thought it would be a good distraction for the summer months. I've found a 2010 RS SE5 with around 6,500 miles on it. I think I can purchase for around $8,000 and should take around $1,800 to fix?. It appears the damage was from a glancing hit that came from behind? The left wheel is pushed forward, there's some damage on the rear and left side of the machine. Do you think I will be able to sell it someday if I buy it and ride it a few years? It will have a salvage title. My biggest fear is that the frame is damaged!!! I know this is a tough one to answer but how easy or likely that the frame is damaged? Otherwise, I'm seriously curious how they actually totalled this thing out.

What do you guys think? Should a guy just save up and buy a new/undamaged one?

If this spyder was totaled it probably has a bent frame. Even with a new frame the resell value is in the tank with a salvage title.

The electric shift is necessary for me to ride. I'll also have to add a hand brake and floorboards in order to be able to ride. Most SE5's I see sell are going for minimum $13K which is foolish IMHO because I've found a dealer that is willing to sell me a new 2012 SE5 for $15,500 + $400 shipping. It's not that I cannot afford a new one but saving $6K is kinda tempting to me. Evidently the opinion here is against it????

wrecked spyder

i'm with arntufun on this one. you would have way too much invested in this bike. i bought mine one year ago for under ten, with 1800 miles:thumbup:

I'm interested.... I need electric shift but I'm all ears on finding a cheap good used spyder. Everything I see has been bringing $14+ for the SE5's. I look at ebay, craigslist and cycle trader. I seen on www.uship.com that I can damn near buy one anywhere in the US so long as I can trust the seller.

I would avoid the wrecked Spyder, if you shop, you can find a deal on a nice used one. Now is probably not the best time to purchase with nicer weather here, winter is the time to buy. Here in Texas I paid 10,200 a year ago for an 09 with 674 miles, there are several for sale at 13-14k but they are dreaming. If they REALLY need to sell, the price will have to come way down, lets face it, Spyders are not that popular, good luck on your decision

I had an... incident :opps: with my RT and the frame got twisted up front. $1400 for the frame alone... Be very careful because if you've got to pull everything off of the frame this is gonna be a job that'll you'll get neck-deep in quickly!
My bike came through the repair process well with only one small issue; repaired already too. I'm glad that they didn't total my bike because I honestly could not have replace it; but a rebuild like the one that you're looking at...

My husband bought a Salvage Title HD, it had very little damage to it and was pretty inexpensive to repair and license. He enjoys riding it but in talking to HD dealers about possible trades they all say they won't take it. It is almost impossible to get financing on a salvaged title bike.

Oh i do so agree with your assessment of people's ideas of the worth of their toys. If you look around there are deals to be had; but i agree with the consensus here that a salvage is not the best idea.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!!
You guys must be my lucky omen. I got to REALLY second guessing my salvage project due to your comments here. I looked around one more time and found a 2008 SE5 spyder with 5,000 miles at a dealership 2 1/2 hrs away. I called and they didn't know much about it but said it was in perfect condition and they had sold it new to the original owner. I hooked up the trailer (just in case) and headed out. When I arrived I was AMAZED at what it was.... It was flawless and had a TON of cool accessories. It has a Corbin seat, Hindle exhaust, highway foot pegs, tall windshield, trunk liner and a spring friction cruise control all installed. I got ALL THAT for less than $10,000 out the door with a full tank of gas!!!! I had looked FOREVER for something like this and the timing was perfect! That thing is a cruiser and my girlfriend really likes riding on it. The 2 backrests keep her locked in tight :D
