In Williamsburg so exciting. Off to be a tourist!!

OK you may get this twice...trying to figure out why some of you get my emails and some of you don't...yep guaranteed I'll never understand what or how!!!
Today I left Martinsville heading for Williamsburg...had looked at map and decided I could avoid most freeways...so travelled east on 58..then a few miles of I-95 north...got onto 40 which brought me thru the back way
when I activated my GPS (no not that electronic thingy...GPS means "get personal service" i.e. ask a local!!!)...I discovered that the best and only way to get to Williamsburg from the backroads was to take the ferry..it actually takes the same path the early settlers first landed and decided that a revolution from Britain was in order...one of the most critical of all Revolutionary War battles was along the waters where the ferry landed....wow there is sooooo much history...certainly have not retained all that learnin' from 6 decades ago!!!!
I will spend at least 2 days here...absorbing all I can...drove and walked around Williams and Mary College today...love the old buildings...hopefully will have some pics to send tomorrow...I am staying in the historic part of Willaimsburg...everything right handy..and for the sweet price of $35 a nite....yes they even gave me clean sheets and towels....actually a former Motel 6...new owners are working very hard and nice couple to chat with...they are immigrants to US and share how the historical was what attracted them to buy here...they say they feel like some of the original pioneers...but glad they don't have to do battle...he says he hates sight of blood!!!!
OK have a great eve...I am realllllly stoked about this area...still haven't dipped my feet in the Atlantic....

Williams and Mary College is beautiful....great buildings....take your time and enjoy Willimsburg...so much to see....can't wait to see the pics.......

One of my favorite places - can't wait to make the journey from Durham to Williamsburg on my Spyder. Already have the route mapped out.

Just stay hydrated - gonna be a warm one today and there is LOTS and LOTS of walking to be done!

We are jealous! We have talked about visiting Colonial Williamsburg for years, but have never made it. Last year on the trip home from Maggie Valley, it would have been the prime opportunity, but we just couldn't manage it. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Jamestown Fort

If you have time, visit Jamestown Fort. It is at the top of my "bucket list". I have been researching it for years. Thousands of artifacts found in recent excavations. A great way to get to NYC would be to go to Virginia Beach and then north on the Bay Bridge to Delaware to the Lewes Ferry up through NJ on Rt 9 (old colonial route from Boston to DC) to NYC. You'll ride right next to the Atlantic.

However, you ride north -- unless you take I95 -- should be a great ride. There are plenty of things to see -- way more than you'll have time for.

Ride safely.

The colonial parkway is a beautiful drive. I used to live up there and it's one of my favorite areas.

Hey Murphy while you are their go to James town and when you leave take the Colonial Parkway to york town and go to the York town Pub and try one of theirgrab cake sandwich. My wife and I go to Wiliamsburg often. And we always go up route 10 to Surry and catch the ferry over. And their are a lot of great places to eat their as well. Try the New York deli and Perce's BarbiQue.

You are absolutely correct (sans restaurant suggestions...didn't get that soon enough...but others can benefit). I came in on 10..took Pochontos ferry to Jamestown...then yesterday did the Jamestown (historical) and Yorktown and Colonial Parkwy....yep realllllly nice plus the history...wow 105 men and boys were the first immigrant to land here to start what is now USA...
Head north tomorrow...thinking toward Dover, Delaware...still trying to figure out route in and out of NYC with a ryde on Staten Ferry...anyone any ideas????

Yep Ken way cool...they were "digging" yesterday...an absolute to do!! I ignored the "recreated Jamestown" bit hokey for me...kids would love..I wanted to "feel" the real deal...and historical Jamestown is definitely it....
I have made nnotes on aboe rte NO..headed that way today. thanks.

Count me as another jealous reader here. I've always wanted to visit the area. The colonial times were so interesting, especially since I grew up in Cambridge and Lexington, MA. Some day we will make it there, but in the meantime I'll look forward to your posts and pics. Thanks!
