• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Starting problems

I'm hoping someone can tell me what is wrong with my 2010 RT.
When I start the engine it revs high, 2200-2300 RPMs, and if I try to put it into gear it knocks and shakes so loud you think it's coming apart.
So I shut it off quickly and wait for the lights to go off.
I try again and instantly the little engine icon comes on, the engine revs high, and if I try to put it in gear I get the machine gun sound again. I turn it off.
I wait for everything to go off, and try again.
This time I get the high revs and the "Check Engine" screen. Turn it off and wait.
This can happen as many as 12 times before (on the 13th) I get the normal 1300-1400 RPMs and I can put it in gear and drive off. It runs fine.
At this point I can cut it off and restart it without any problems. However, by the time I get off of work, and it has cooled down and sat for several hours, I go through the same thing trying to get home.

Anyone got any ideas?

If you check the code it should read P1614...ie., faulty throttle body. Seems like the only "fix" is a new throttle body. And BRP should warranty it. I had mine replaced on a 2010 RT SM5.

Dudley is correct, this is a known issue that should have been adressed by yur dealer

To pull up the stored codes that he's referring to, SIMULTANIOUSLY (sp?) hold down the MENU, SET & Turn Signal Cancel (push-in) buttons ALL at the same time, then the stored codes should show on your LCD screen. The symptoms you describe, means your Throttle Bodies will need to be replaced. Good Luck & Hope they get you back to ryde'n sooner than later

This does not pull up the stored codes..only the active ones! To see stored codes the Spyder has to be hooked to BUDS.

Do this quickly when the Spyder starts badly. The code will show. And for stored codes, the BUDS must be used.
Also, once you get it to start right, when you turn it off again for a short stop, etc, (where you can keep an eye on the Spyder) use the kill switch. Leave the key in the ignition untouched! That will cause the computer not to be reset when you start again. If you go on a ride, tie back the lock on your seat to be able to access your gas tank, using the "kill" switch to turn it off and not having to use the key to open seat.
How do I know? I ran this way for about 4 months before I got the throttle body changed. It works.

I hade the same probleme on my 2011 RTS throttle Body, they gone replace it, and it's a new update for it as lamonster post it.

That does not apply to the 2010s. It could still be a TB problem, but it will not require the update.

Sort of an update . . .
My dealer finally agreed that it needs a new throttle body. He ordered the thing - and it was supposed to be in stock - but two weeks later it still hasn't shown up yet. So I've been without my Spyder for about a month now. That's over $400 bucks (monthly payment) for nothing. And it's the best ryding weather we'll have here all year. Soon it will really be getting hot. (Almost as hot as I am right now over this!)

Who do I contact at Can-Am about this?

Sometimes I wish she'd a bought me a Goldwing!

Now they say it's back ordered. Won't get here until next week.

Wish I could ride my Spyder.

Goldwing . . . . .

I finally got my Spyder back yesterday. New throttle body and break pin. Good think it was still under warranty or I'd be out $1474.

Sorry to hear about your down time

I had the same problem occur with my 2010 RT but I had the "good fortune" to have the problem occur at Spyderfest last week. I've never had a lick of problems with my bike but last Thursday started her up and had that machine gun sound when I popped it into 1st. Couldn't get any RPMs higher than 2000. Shut it off, let it set a few seconds and started fine. No codes, no limp mode...nothing. Happened twice so I took it to Cowtown and they replaced the throttle body on Friday. Admittedly the bike was in the shop the whole day but they had the parts, BRP techs as well as the Cowtown techs and overall I was pleased with the repair, all covered under warranty. They took care of the brake pin recall and another recall I didn't even know I was missing!

Again, I'm sorry you had to sit without your ryde for so long but glad to hear you're repaired and ready to go!
