Harley offers new 3-wheeler

Ya beat me to it ;-)

I may be mistaken, but I think this may be the first Motorcycle OEM three-wheeler in the industry. Well, except for the Spyder

Been rumors the Honda will do a Goldwing Trike - maybe 2010 when mfg is all back in Japan.

Got a Harley price tag too :cus:

...Made me chuckle...

So, the author writes "it has a reverse transmission..."

(So, it does the opposite of whatever you ask?? :joke:)

Hmm...Cost of the new Harley trike = 1.94 times the cost of a Spyder. nojoke

HD actually entered into a partnership a couple years ago with Lehman with the intention of building a factory trike. Looks pretty similar to every other Lehman trike but it's supposed to have some steering aids and the frame is different from the old E-glides.

I am sure it's nice but it looks like any other trike rear end on a classic HD.
Just my opinion but I think the spyder wins with originality and style and I am sure the stock classic can't get out of it's own way.

Again my opinion

LOVE the :spyder:

I was expecting to see that prototype three wheeler that Harley is supposed to be working on, two wheels in the front and it leans like a regular motorcycle.

This is the one I expected to see, also, when I clicked on the link. Harley actually got patents (or maybe just applied) on this lean trike design, so I wonder why they didn't go with this one? Maybe because it was too "untraditional" for their image? :dontknow:

I love the article's description (coming from H-D I'm sure) of the "Harley designed" components comprising the rear suspension and drive system. Last year, as part of the festivities at Sturgis during the annual bike rally I toured the Lehman trike factory in Spearfish, SD (http://www.lehmantrikes.com). We were looking for a trike for the wifey and wanted get a better idea of how the kits go together. Lehman has been building trike kits for H-D and a number of other bike manufacturers for years.

The company President and an build shop supervisor both told us they had made a deal to supply H-D with kits for an upcoming production trike based on the Ultra Classic.

From the looks of it, H-D simpley slapped Lehman's standard trike kit on the Ultra and called their own. That's some fine H-D engineering...

Regards,

Mark

P.S. I'm SOOOOOOOO glad we held out for the Spyder!

It really does look like all the HD trikes I've seen before. I'm sure the whole rear end is Lehman only. The only thing HD did was change the frame (which it did to all touring bikes this year, of note HD is facing a couple lawsuits from high speed wobble accidents in their touring bikes) and it changed the rake on the front end of the trike model.

Harley will sell thousands of them....mostly to the typical HD buyer who is getting so "on in years" that they can no longer safely handle a 2 wheel bike !! Once you add the usual optional chrome and other do-dads, the $30k base price will be up into the 40's.

I also thought that they were coming out with 2 wheels in front?

Well this new HD trike would never fit me - too much metal and chrome for me to manuver on. I love Harleys - don't get me wrong but I'm happy that I made my decision to get the :spyder:. I like my :spyder:much better - it is cooler looking, it goes fast and I fit on it!
