There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Miles per tank

You guys are amazing on fuel.
I went 2 up and got 25 mpg. I get 25-28 mpg 1 up in the city.
I am 200 lbs
How in the world is there such a difference.

I'm only 165 and get the same 27-28 always.

I usually fill up at 125 miles, 2 bars and a yellow light, usually takes around 4.5 gallons or so to fill her.

My vitals are 6'4" - 240 lbs. When I was riding it hard, I would get around 28 mpg. Now that the newness has worn off a bit, I generally ride more conservatively. Easy on the throttle, coast to stop signs and lights, stay around the speed limit. I get 30 - 32 mpg riding that way. I burn regular, 87 octane, and nothing else.

This may be an urban legend but I seem to remember hearing that there are different fuel additives for different regions of the U.S. and those additives have an effect on fuel economy.

Octane

I run 93 octane all the time from the first tank. The oil companies have screwed with the cetane rating and everything else till I just do 93. 87 octane breaks down quicker than it did in the past. i usually get about 30-35. I'm a little heavy on the throttle............

That's bad mileage for a 2 cyl bike,I get almost twice that milage with a 6 cyl Goldwing that weighs more than the Spyder.

Yes, but does your Goldie Trike go from zero to sixty in four-and-a-half seconds?

The range of fuel economy reported is all over the map -- anywhere from 25 mph to well over 40. My money says it all has to do with speed; you ride it fast and you pay for the fuel.

Just spent the weekend riding around the northern Ozarks with a group. Speeds ranged from 40 - 60 mph depending on the roads. Because we were in a group there was little chance to open 'er up and play. Besides, wifey was riding the Spyder -- she doesn't play like me...

The Spyder averaged 37 mpg for the weekend. Is that great? Probably not, but I never once worried she would tip over at a stop sign, or lose it on gravel. Three wheels with enough performance to satisfy comes at a price...

Bottom line for me -- if you're worried about gas mileage when you're out ryding, you're doing it wrong! ;)

Mark

It seems you are getting better mileage than most with yours. I googled "goldwing trike mileage" and the link below popped up. Based on posts to that forum the majority of Goldwing Trike owners are reporting 30 - 35 -- about the same as most Spyder owners.

What kind of mileage are you getting (with your Goldwing Trike)?

:agree: I just got back from a 193 mile ride today; 1 up. Topped it off after the first 50 miles, then topped it off again after 143 miles with 5.55 gallons; this is the second time I got 28 miles/gallon. I'm not able to get better.

I am aware (now, after someone else posted the tip) that the tank will take another 1.5-1.7 gallons by lifting the gas nozzle and continuing to fill the tank more. So, I know the tank is topped off consistent each time.

I'm a bit disappointed.

Suggestions?

I'm not concerned about mileage. I'm getting my :spyder: for fun and enjoyment. If I was worried about mileage I would get a "Hybrid" whatever. I only get to live this life once, and I'm going to make the best of it.

I didn't buy my :spyder: for mileage either; but that's not my point.

From other postings it appears some people are getting 20+% better mileage than others. I was just trying to see if there were known issues, tips, etc. That's all.

i got 40 mpg this last tank...it gets better and better the more miles i put on it. when i first got it i was lucky to get 34-35. now that i have over 6000 miles it gets better!

There's no fun at the pumps - the mileage stinks - as bad as my V-rod was it still averaged 30. The most I ever got on my Spyder was 28 mpg.

36 mpg with around town & highway speeds over 70mph.

(Tires at manual recommended pressure, Micron exhaust, F1 wind shield, less than 5K miles on odometer, lots of 2-up riding.)

I agree. My best mileage was probably around 33 - 35 mpg. My average is between 29 and 31 mpg. On the exact same trip, going the same speeds, over the same roads, in the same conditions, dltang got a couple of mpg better than I did. I believe her average is around 33 or 34 mpg, maybe more. I just wonder if there is that much variance in the mpg, bike to bike, or if the Spyder fuel economy is that sensitive to aerodynamics and riding style.

i.e. If I traded with spyderwoman, would she get 30 mpg on mine and I get 40 mpg on hers or would she pull 40 mpg out of my Spyder while I drop hers to 30 mpg? :dontknow:

When my wife rides hers, she gets 2-4 mpg better than when I ride it. Don't know if that is her short stature, and more forward riding position, or her more conservative riding style. She doesn't appreciate the joy of the throttle as much as I do. She weighs less, too. Maybe the Spyder is just partial to women...or senses that I own two-wheeled motorcycles. :D

She must have one or more of the following advantages:

Better looking than you

Rides a bike better than you

Has a better profile than you (wind resistance)

Smarter than you

Has a better bike than you

:D All of the above! She does have fewer bikes than I do, however.

fuel mileage

Give the spyder some time to break in. When we pull one out of the crate
the first few tanks they get poor fuel mileage. My demo with 1700 miles is getting better all the time. about 30 to 40 mpg. keep in mind brp builds these things to extreemly close tolerances and it will take a while for them to break in. BUT do we really ride the Spyder for the fuel economy? come on have fun with it and screw the details.
