Kewlmetal RS Performance Air Filter Kit

Howdy,

I recently installed the Kewlmetal RS performance air filter kit on a 09 GS SE5 and I'm experiencing a high idle. This is happening intermittently. I did not install a fuel management box as I was told I may or may not need one. I'm not getting any back firing from the exhaust.

I live is south Louisiana where I'm pretty much at sea level so altitude isn't a factor.

Has anyone experienced this with this performance air filter install ? What was your fix to this ?

Thanks in advance.

Ray

It hasn't happened in a couple months, and I have a completely stock system except a 2bros slipon exhaust, but I have just chalked this issue up to the engine wanting to be warm or something along those lines. I have never really completely worried about it.

Thanks for your reply !

I was going to say O2 mod as well. bummer that no one else makes them now that Evo folded. But I never experienced a high idle condition when I changed my intake and can. I got one to take care of the decel popping (lean conditon). Love the Kewl Metal air intake. The Hindle - complete POS! The thing fell apart on me. I have my stocker back on for now, but it's doin fine so I'm gonna leave it for now.

How long did you have the Hindle Exhaust ? When you say it fell apart, what do you mean by that, the baffles or the pipe itself ?

Yeah I like the sound the performance air filter makes when your WOT !

Thanks to all for the advice.

Well, first the rivets on the heat shield got loose so all you could hear was this ridiculous rattle. Then the thing started geting louder and when I finally got it off to see what I could do about the heat shields the other rivets that hold the front end cap together were lifting and the sides were literally separating and you could see what looked like some kind of packing exposed. This was on the bottom portion of the can so I never saw it until I took it off. The inside of the can was all burnt up and the sides were so corroded the whole thing was just falling apart. All that in a year and a half. The exhaust on my truck lasted 15 years! And of course, no support from BRP. But putting the stocker back on was not the worst move. I know my neighbors like the stocker much better!

Update...

Well I figured out my high idle problem. The reason I installed the Kewlmetal Air Filter kit was because I installed an electronic cruise control and I didn't want to fight the stock air box.

What I found was that because of the way I secured my servo cable (plastic wire ties), it had creeped a little and it was pulling on the throttle linkage.

I'd like to thank all the folks that responded to my query and provided their opinions.

I love it when they are easy! :2thumbs: Nice work re-tracing your steps and finding the issue. Ride on!

Yeah, I'm glad it didn't end up being a sensor or something that a "shade tree mechanic" without the proper equipment can figure out.
