• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Phone Holder + Charger

I'm getting ready to remove the fuel and temp gauges from my 2011 RT-S and replace them with a 12v socket and voltmeter. I'm thinking that instead of buying a GPS, I would use my iPhone's Google Maps for navigation (or any other nav app), but in order to do that, I need to have constant power to my phone. I found a holder that also doubles as a charger and wondered if anyone else has a similar setup, and if so, how well it works on the RT.

Here are a few of the units that I've been looking at:

Appreciate any insight you can give me.
Thanks!

Hi Anita. I have the RAM iPhone tray/holder and an Apple charging cable running from an USB adapter plugged in a 12v outlet installed in my frunk. I use the MotionX GPS app and I'm very happy with this setup.
Good luck.

Here is my setup from another thread. I am very happy with it.

I installed a 12v power outlet by the front speakers. I mounted mine on the dash itself, but if I had to do it over I would put in the speaker grill. Several have done that. Scotty was the first I saw, but I think that is a good way to go, and an inexpensive piece to replace if you mess up. Sorry I don't have a pic of his install.

Here is a link to my mods and power outlet and you will also see my original phone setup. The one I have posted in this thread with the Lifeproof case is my newest version though.

Do not use the mounts that simply plug into a 12volt outlet... too much vibration. Spend the money and go with a Ram Mount or other sturdier/secure mount... For a better 12 volt outlet use a powerlet.

I have this holder, its kinda weird, it holds the phone via tension / springs I assume and can either be mounted to hold it up and down or sideways. I have an HTC EVO in mine, however, based on what I have seen it will work with any phone. I get power from a powerlet outlet directly above the RAM mounting. I have an RS and Helibar risers, so I have the helibar powerlet / RAM mount replacement for where the ignition was. This gives me the ability to have power and GPS in the center of my handle bars.

I also have a garmin mount, I talked to a RAM dealer yesterday and I might have the ability to house both, however, like you, my phone can GPS it up so I am not sure I need both at this time.

I am pleased with that RAM holder for my phone.

Good to know, thanks!

Easy In... Easy Out... Very Secure...

Talking about the cell phone holder on the right, of course...

hrbeta - I have a RAM iPhone holder and am looking for a way to get power to it while using the GPS capability with the latest Google Maps app (which is really good). The battery on my iPhone 4S runs down pretty quickly, and your setup sounds similar to what I'm looking for. How difficult was it to run the USB cable from the frunk to the handle bar area? Could you post pictures?

This is what I just installed on my RS.

The USB port also has an audio input on it as well. The wires are pretty long, long enought to reach the rear of the spyder I would think. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZNXX7C/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then I used a 12volt to usb module to connect it to the spyder power.

I like the x grip ram mount. Haven't installed my outlet in the dash yet.
