2011 Spyder RTS automatic shifting problem

WHEN I DRIVE IN CITY RIDING FROM STOP SIGN TO STOP SIGN,AFTER A FEW MILES WHEN I GO TO SHIFT TO 2ND GEAR IT WILL DOWNSHIFT BACK TO 1ST GEAR ,& I GO TO SHIFT IT AGAIN AND SOMETIMES IT WIL SHIFT AND SOMETIMES IT WONT. IT HAPPENS FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR SOMETIMES ,ISHIFT AROUND 3000 TO 3500 RPM ,SOMEONE TOLD ME TO SHIFT AT HIGHER RPMS BUT THAT IS TO FAST IN CITY FROM STOP SIGN TO STOP SIGN ONLY CITY DRIVING WHEN ENGINE GETS WARM NO PROBLEM WHEN COLD GOT ANY IDEAS?:helpsmilie:

You were told correctly...you are shifting too soon. If you don't have the rpm high enough, the Spyder will delay shifting or won't shift at all. If after shifting, the rpm drops enough to cause an automatic downshift, the Spyder will shift down. Stay in a lower gear. You control the speed.

from what i know the autos will try to shift dowen if under 4000 rpm you should shift around 4500 to 5000,so if your in towen make sure to shift at least 4000 to 4500,these like high rpm thats why the shift back dowen at 3000 rpm.im not an expert but i have had one 2 yeaes plus .so this is all i can tell you.:thumbup: hopr that helps:2thumbs:

RPMs

The manual says that you must be above 3000 rpms to shift and that it downshifts at 1800 rpms. While in town I always go at least 3500 but it prefers 4000.
