AMSOIL or BRP oil

How many are running AMSOIL or Mobil I? What weight do you use? I have used full synthetic for 25 years and have been very pleased. I am 100% sure that Amsoil exceeds the BRP oil and there is no way by law it could affect your warranty. Magnuson Moss Act covers this very well. I have a Limited with an automatic transmission, still do not see an issue, would like your opinions. Thanks

There are threads with everything from Oil Polls to general discussions.

Amsoil makes a 10w-40 wet clutch rated motorcycle oil that most Spyder owners use. This is the same weight as the BRP blended oil. I use Amsoil and I think it is well worth the investment. I think this goes even more so with the SE Spyders that can use the improved lubrication provided by a superior, true synthetic oil like Amsoil.

I use Castrol full synthetic 5w-40. From my understanding it's the same stuff BRP put in their bottles the first couple years of the Spyder's existence. That is about to change.

A relative of mine that lives a couple of miles from me is an Amsoil dealer. He has been trying to get me to use Amsoil in my sleds for the past few years. After listening to him rave about it every time we go on our annual snowmobile trip and doing a little research myself I am ready to make the change.

I have 6 qts of motorcycle oil and 1 gal of 2 stroke oil left. When it's gone my Spyder and the ski-doo's will be using Amsoil.

Amsoil is even cheaper when you consider that you can go twice the distance between oil changes and still get better protection. Really a great deal too when you consider cross country trips. Most times it completely eliminates an oil change during the trip.

Plus you can factor in savings on oil filters and time. Hey! Wait! I'm going to be selling about 1/2 the filters this way! Please disregard everything I've said! :banghead:

Ron,
After this you should sell AMSOIL to make up for what you just lost on filters.:roflblack: Amsoil the best on the market for the SE5 Spiders and made in the USA. That's IMHO.

Actually, I do sell Amsoil. But I sell it at my dealer cost, I don't make any money on the Amsoil so it isn't going to make up for the lost filter sales. But it's not all that bad, I sell A LOT of filters thanks to all the excellent support vendors get here at Spyderlovers!

6000 miles on Amsoil or any similar oil may not be the wisest as the same oil is used in the transmission. This was brought up before by better experts than me so I'm just passing it on.

Amsoil stands up better to the rigors of transmission duty than just about any other engine oil made. It has been tested in much harsher environments than our Spyder transmission will give it with zero wear on the gears and bearings and for longer change intervals than 6,000 miles.

With lesser oils you are going to get wear but with Amsoil, you are more than covered at change intervals of 6,000 miles. I wonder if anyone out there has had their oil tested?

If you show up at a dealer for warranty service with any kind of real engine problems, will BRP be in agreement that it was ok to use 6,000 mi change intervals with Amsoil instead of their specified 3,000 ?

And that is the key question. I doubt BRP would agree the the oil change interval the Amsoil dealer(s) recommend. If not, maybe the Amsoil folks would cover the repairs...

I have used Amsoil in all my other bikes, even when the HD dealers tried to tell me that it would void the warranty and cause the roller bearings to slide...lol.

I never went over 3K and just never would on a V-Twin, due to the engine temps and heat produced. Now on my Goldwing I would go 6K no problem for a 6 cylinder car engine, no problem.

I would say that BRP would frown on anything beyond the recommend maintenance. Again 2500-3000 is my limit on two cylinders V or parallel...
