• No, you WON'T suddenly be at the mercy of 10,000 telemarketers if you don't.
• Contrary to what's claimed, cell phone numbers are NOT about to "go public."

...and, according to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007 which became law in 2008, you do not have to renew your number on the list after five-years. Placement on the registry is permanent.

My cell number, and my land line have been on the do not call list since 2006, I'm still having problems with one outfit that has hundreds of its own numbers, I complain about one, they just call me from another number. Evidently, there's a way around everything.

:agree: I put my home number on the registry when it first came out and continued to get calls. Finally just did away with the home phone. Now I have also placed my cell phone number on the registry and almost immediately afterwards I started getting call from a telemarketer for cruise lines. I solved the problem by adding the number to my contact and having the call routed directly to my voicemail - wellah -- no more call since I did that.ray:

Does it start out with a recording asking if you're bothered by the high interest rate on your credit card? That's the one I get, and it's always from a different phone number. I've reported it to the DNC registry, but they still come!

Unwanted telephone calls

I put my home phone, a land line, on the Do Not Call List when it started. While that reduces the number of calls, it doesn't eliminate them all. Besides, the politicians who wrote the laws gave exemptions to several of their "friends"

There are at least two problems (1) some firms, debt collectors being the worst, who simply ignore the list knowing that most people won't go to the trouble of complaining, and (2) computer dialing. Computers can dial thousands of numbers quickly, and do not care if it is a cell phone or a land line, they just dial numbers until someone picks up then they signal the telemarketer that they have a "live" one.

I have a prepaid cell phone that I use only to call home or get a call from home when I'm at the store. as soon as I turn it on, it gets a call from some number I do not recognize. fortunately, I can now reject that number, and the phone goes beep and rejects the call when it comes in again, sometimes as many as five times a day if I don't turn the phone off. I'm resigned to simply deleting the missed calls whenever I turn the phone back on. :banghead:

I've taken to creating a contact called "telemarketer". Anytime i get an unwanted call, add it to this contact. Every call from this contact is not only blocked, but thanks to the magic of google voice, when that number calls, they are informed that my number is disconnected. Sometimes prompting the computer to remove my number from their list. I just wish I had that for my home phone.

I have been getting these calls for the last several months since I refinanced my mortgage. The call starts off "Your credit is being jeopardized and this is your last chance blah blah blah, press 1 to speak to a representative credit specialist', well i press 1 and half the time the phone call gets disconnected(darn), but the few times I get through I tell them I am very interested and want to learn more, they give me their spiel, and wait for a response, I say oh wow that sounds great could you hold on I just have to turn off my spyder that is running in the garage and i will be right back..................................................................... When I come back on I thank them for assisting me in wasting their time, that this is a project I needed to comple(CLICK) they hung up, gosh darn it, they will get fewer calls in that day I suppose.

And yes my # is on the DNC registry, maybe I have to re- renew it.:dontknow:

Generally it's "not provided", but lately it has been "lower interest". I tried telling one of their talkers (I won't call them people) that I'm not interested, and I am on the do not call list, but she just kept on running her mouth till I hung up, only to get another call from the same number 5 minutes later.
I DO know that telephone harassment is a felony, with a fine of up to 5000, and up to 5 years in prison, sorry, but it was the only way I could get my ex-wife to stop calling.
