Issues fitting Evo RT sway bar

Hi All
Ken at Evoluzione has not struck this so I thought I would see if any of you can give me an idea. I have an RS myself but sent an Evo RT sway bar to someone here in Australia with an RT. His problem is as follows -

"I sent you an email stating I thought the return arms were too short, pulling the hangers way out of line back towards the frame, in fact only about one mm off the frame and putting them under a lot of strain, and was most likely touching under heavy cornering.
Anyway last week when out for a ride, I heard quite a load knocking when turning, and on investigation I found the bearing in the hanger was the problem, because with the hangers being so far out of line the bolt fixing
is trying to pull the bearing out of its holder, instead of down, it is not hanging free and when you are in a heavy turn the hanger touches the frame stopping anymore movement, and putting it under a lot of stress, certainly
it could have failed because it is only made of a hard plastic, also the original bar has a slot each side to take a plastic ring with a corresponding molding to sit in the slot, and this stops any side movement of the arm but this slot is not on the replacement sway bar
"
Any guesses as to whats happening here would be appreciated

RT Swaybar

The first thing I bought for my RT in 2010 was the Evo Swaybar. It does not do what it did for my 08 GS that it did for my 2010 RT. Yes it seems that the link ends are strained and yes I think they should be stronger, maybe aluminum. One thing to remember is that the original bushings are locked into position and the Evo bar does not. I clamped a piece of rubber from what I can remember On the inside of the bushings to stop the Swaybar from moving sideways when cornering. Not to long after the Swaybar install I bought the Elkas and with them the front end sits higher so the Evo Bar does not hit the frame and is farther away from it as my A arms are angled downward now with it sitting higher. I would recommend the Elkas and not the Swaybar on the RT but the opposite on the RS.

same problem

Hi, I have had the same problem, and have removed the shorter armed rt sway bar, as its a poor design, and made the bearing in the hanger fail within 500 klm. when I first fitted the bar, it was only 1mm off the cross bar of the frame as you say, I contacted the supplier Evolozione and they said it was ok as was, within a month the hanger bearing started to click very bad on cornering.
The hanger with the stock bar on is already 25mm out of vertical, which is no problem, when you fit the shorter armed bar it is over 55mm out of vertical, not good, and touching the cross bar under cornering, so if anyone else has fitted the shorter armed bar, it is only a matter of time before the bearing and or plastic hanger will fail, not good for steering control because it is only likely to fail under heavy cornering, could be a bit scary. I think the makers just got more torsion the quick way by shortening the bar, intead of bar size or stiffer steel, and are trying to say now BRP must have changed something between models, but I have looked at 2010 and 11 and they look the same, glad I have the stock one back on.

Today I drove a very new 2012 RT Ltd with stock shocks and swaybar and found it not nearly as stable as my 2010 RT with Evo Swaybar & 2011 shocks. Just twitching the handle bars caused it to start rocking, where my 2010 would stay completely flat.

The question is, Do the Evo swaybars fit a 2012 RT ?
and, has anyone used Elka shocks on an RT along with the Evo swaybar ?

I have both the Evo Swaybar and Elka shocks on my 2010 RT. The Swaybar does not hit with the Elkas because the Elkas hold the RT up higher off the ground and the A arms are not resting on the Swaybar. Hope this helps.

RT Swaybar part No ?

Can anyone tell me if the BRP part no. is the same for the Swaybar on the 2010 and 2012 RTs ?

Do you feel the Evo helps even with the Elkas ? Which did you put in first?
(Thanks for the feedback!)

I have a Evo sway bar and Elka shocks on a 2011 RT-S, if I had to do it all over again I would not put the Evo bar on it did not make that much of a difference on the bike, but the Elka's make it feel like I'am driving a go kart just stays flat on all the corners.

Evo

Just installed mine on 2011 RT-S. It is an improvement, less body roll. Elka shocks would be next but just bought new home so $ are tight now.

I did the Evo Swaybar first but found little difference. I waited for the Elkas because of the cost but after I put the Elkas on would not be without!! The Swaybar is all I needed on my 08 GS but the RT is a whole different machine!

Thanks Scotty.

Based on all the comments I am starting to think about trying the Elkas first and then may not have to bother with the swaybar.

Even if you're happy with the stock shocks sooner or later they will wear out and need replacement and they don't have near as much adjustment as the Elkas. I think that would be a good first mod. :doorag:
