• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Check Transmission

Been reading and enjoying this website for a while. Havent ever posted anything so here is my first post. My 2009 RS Se5 has about 4000 miles all updates and oil changes. My check transmission came on yesterday and locked me into 1st gear. Got the spyder home, and today decided to take it for a ride to the grocery store and the check transmission came on again but did not lock me into first gear. Has anyone had this happen. I know by reading on this site for a while that there are some pretty mechanical people. My nearest dealer is 120 miles away, trying not to have to trailer it there. Will if I have to though. Thanks in adavance for any information on this.

:welcome: Sorry to hear of your issue at only 4000 miles. I am not a mechanical expert--but they will come on.

Once in a while a computer glitch will occur giving you a warning screen. If its a glitch, it will go away with a reboot. Persistant warning screens mean something is wrong. The mechanical experts will advise what to do.

Hi there, and welcome to the Spyderlovers forum!

Regarding the transmission: There has been an issue that popped up regarding the SE5 and its transmission sticking. I am not sure if your machine has all of the recalls and updates completed, but if you do not, it is recommended you do. That requires a trip to your dealer and may fix this issue.

If I recall correctly there is something in the owners manual about adjusting the shifter in situations where you can't shift or you are stuck in 1st (or was that trick/tip for the SM5?).

Cheers.

Good point on the 'reboot'. To do this, the key has to be switched off-on 3 times in a couple seconds. Then let it set a few mins.

:welcome: Do check the oil level. It is important on an SE. It needs to be checked hot, BTW. Beyond that, you are best off to visit the dealer. Sorry for the difficulty, but there are multiple possibilities, and little the average owner can do about them.

First, :welcome:
Second, my 09 RS SE5 has "errored" twice in the last 10K miles. Never locked me in any gear. Both times I added a bit of oil and I was off error free. As said, check the oil level when the oil is hot. I don't go by the water temp in terms of hot oil. Reading the oil level can be challenging, but just follow the manual. Hopefully, its just that the oil is a bit low. Good luck and let us know.

I have a 2010 RS SE5 and mine did the same thing and right at 4k miles. The error wouldn't clear and I had to get under the Spyder and pop it into gear. I rode it in to my dealer and they tore it down to be safe and check everything and turns out it was just a "glitch" in the computer. They cleared the code and I'm nearing 7k miles and it hasn't happened again.

Definitely check the oil level. My wife's Spyder did the same thing, and her oil level was low. She was due for an oil change anyway, so we took care of that yesterday and she is good to go now. Another thing to be aware of, especially as we head into colder weather, is a low battery can cause all kinds of issues on the Spyder, so you may also want to check that out. If the oil level is good, and the battery is fully charged, then a ryde to the dealer would be next. Mine had the Gear Positioning Sensor (GPS) fail on it early on and had trouble shifting gears a couple of times due to that, but has been bullet proof since they replaced that part.
