• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Goodbye GS-SM, Hello RT-S SE

I traded in my 2009 GS for a 2011 RT-S today and boy what a difference. I did notice that there is not as much airflow on the RT, but I know I'm going to appreciate that in the winter. It was about 95 degrees when I left the dealership, but it felt more like 195 on the road. I rode about 15 miles going anywhere from 30-60mph and then I hit a wall of traffic. The next 10 miles, I sat miserably going 1-5mph in the blistering sun. I kept an eye on the temp gauge and saw it creeping towards red. Shortly after, it stalled out. I restarted the engine and moved another 12 feet or so and started thinking perhaps it did that because I didn't have my foot on the brake pedal while waiting to move another foot or two. When I stopped again, this time my foot didn't leave the pedal, it stalled again. I started it up with no problem, and although I was still stuck in this awful traffic another mile or so, I had no further issues the rest of the way home.
I've read a few threads pertaining to this very issue and will be checking my fuses in the morning, but am definitely going to call my dealer. I really hope this is not a prelude of what's to come.

I know the Spyder hates the heat of stop and go but I don't think it should have stalled because of it . Did you notice if the fan was comming on ?Did it go into the red ?Did you check your fluid level ?I know a lot of trouble on the new Spyders has been dealer prep or lack off .:dontknow:

:congrats: I hope they get your stalling "hiccup" taken care of quickly. Then you can hit the road in earnest. You're gonna love the RT!

I have no idea if the fan came on, I assume it did otherwise it would have definitely overheated. It was pretty hot outside.

Nope, it didn't go into the red - the needle was on the last white bar though.

I didn't check the fluid level since it was so hot when I got home, but will do that today.

Thanks Scotty! I also have the Viper Red and already LOVE it. I have faith that this is either a loose fuse or battery cable or is a simple fix.

There are a couple of other known issues that could cause the stalling, especially the throttle body thing. Be sure they perform warranty campaigns 2011-7, 8, and 9 when you have the 600 mile service done. If your suspension will only work manually, you need 2011-6 performed, too.

:congrats: on your new ryde. Scotty has you covered on the issues. Yes, you will really like the RTS once they get the bugs worked out. And the red color is beautiful.:2thumbs::ohyea:

Ahhh...Scotty to the rescue. :ohyea: I will ask my dealer if they have performed those campaigns and will check the suspension automation too.
You're the best! Thank you!

Update....

Took the RT-S in to the dealer today and they didn't find anything wrong with the bike or fan, they took it for a test drive, did the necessary campaigns, and all is well. Note however, that the temp gauge was approaching red a couple of days ago while riding to work in 60 degree temp and I was only about 3 miles from the house. I pulled over, took out the owner's manual to find out which fuse was for the fan. Pulled the fuse, took a look at it - still in tack - so I put it back into its place. The rest of the ride to work, the needle was around mid-way, so I think it was the fuse not being seated completely.

Interesting tidbit that I think every dealer should know and TELL you when you drive your new RT off the lot - per the owners manual (not verbatim, just by memory): "Do not ride in stop and go traffic for the first 100 miles, if the temp gets too hot you should pull over and turn the ignition off and let the engine cool." Although the manual doesn't state what might happen, I have a feeling that the bike shut down because it was approaching overheat range. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :doorag:

I told both my sales person and my service advisor about this and neither of them knew that. I think there needs to be a requirement for dealership personnel to read owners manuals of the vehicles they are selling. I can't tell you how many times I've had to educate sales and service people. They have plenty of time on their hands while waiting for customers to come, so why not study up on what you're selling?
