Hi everyone!
Been WAY too long since I had the chance to take a good ryde and enjoy it! Thankfully that was put to bed today!
I joined a meetup.com group of central Texas spyder ryders and I met them today for breakfast and an excellent ryde through the hill country!
First stop was our meeting place (in front of the manly Office Depot, no, no one bought a swingline red stapler) and connecting up with several folks. Thankfully, I wasn't the only "first timer" here, but everyone was very nice and everyone's Spyders were very unique! (I was very jealous of Mudfoot's running boards, especially on the long ryde!)
Meeting at what is normally too early, but when you are ryding, who cares!
After connecting up (15 of us with only one 2-up couple), we headed out down FM 1431, which as you can see by the route map, is extremely windy. Our only problem was we got caught behind a Corolla who wanted to do this thing called the "speed limit" but some of us got past and caught some wind through our bald heads
It was excellent weather, about 85 and sunny, and it seemed almost too quick for us to arrive at our destination in Marble Falls, the Bluebonnet Cafe, for breakfast. I ordered 2 pancakes, and let me tell you, this place is homestyle southern breakfast, the pancakes were like the size of whammo frisbees!
Great food, almost too much, and several OJs and Coffee later, we mounted up having picked up another couple who lives nearby. Our leader took us down several back roads, around Lakewaywhere we got several head turns going through some small developments.
Then, we headed down Commanche Trail, onto FM 2769, a route suggested to me by one of my employees, and is excellent! Completely overgrown and shaded, wonderful curves, and a blast to ryde.
Several of went in different directions here, based on our next destination, but yours truly went on to Plucker's to meet my family for lunch, and then a nice ryde home on a straight and flat tollway, to the interstate, and then home.
Only "issue" if you can call it that, was a guy in Lakeway not looking and almost cutting a corner and into me, but he woke up thankfully in time, with some help from my horn.
If you are near central Texas, I highly recommend FM 2769 and FM 1431, especially the later. If you cut from Marble Falls down 281 to 290, Fredericksburg is an awesome day trip!
Here's some more photos I snapped with my phone and you can see the meetup.com slideshow here.
