• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:yikes:spyder was secured on a open trailer with big SS cable and super big master pad lock. truck and trailer with the spyder were parked in a parking area on the foothills parkway Friday(6-17) Morning for about 5 hours while owners rode other motorcycle over to the Dragon. returned to find it stolen. Rangers said 3 were stolen from the area during the Maggie Valley ralley. According to the Local SO Dept. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE AT OTHER RALLEYS.. seems spyders don't have vin number engraved into the metal. BRP uses a tape easliy removed. Parts are then sold at ralleys Craig list and Ebay. without numbers.. so BEWARE:helpsmilie:

:gaah: :cus:  That's a dang shame... I'm guessing that they couldn't find anybody who might have seen something?

Perhaps having BRP actually scratch the VINS into the metal should be moved up on our "wishlists..."

My condolences go out to you over this loss...

I take it this was yours? Very sorry to hear this.

As far as vin numbers stamped in the frame goes, that wouldn't really matter if they are parting it out anyway.

VIN etching

So with no VIN's I am taking it that even if the police did ever manage to locate some of the stolen Spyders, there is no way you could ever prove which one belongs to you?? Is this true??

It seems to me then that there is a business to be started at rally's and such by offering engraving of your VIN on choice areas of the Spyder. I do not know the best places to do this but you folks are well versed about your rides and probably know where to do the engraving.

Then if parts are being sold and they have the VIN's scratched and dug out you can pretty much bet those parts were stolen.

When I get my Spyder you can bet I will get an electric engraver and do my own ride.
Just thinking here, it can be dangerous for us all. I am unsupervised, my wife is gone at this time. :joke:

Stolen Spyder

I'm sorry to hear you had your baby stolen. I had LoJack installed on mine when I bought it.

Vin Number

The spyder does have an etched vin number it's just a pain in the A** to get to. Its behind the right wheel in the frame. It also has an etched engine number just below the gas tank. the owners manual shows where they are located. Its not easy to find but it's there.

Man that's a bunch of :cus:. Just think of all the :spyder2:s sitting in parking lots over the weekend. And I'd wager that the purps were at the festival grounds Friday evening since not everyone had wrist bands then. Sorry for your loss.

:gaah:that is the :cus: pits. Time to find the stickers that say "insured by Glock 10mm" or something to that effect.

Hope the authorities can find the stolen :spyder:s.

Be Safe

Total bummer!

Someone must have planned ahead for this kind of heist-- had a trailer or truck ready to load the Spyder onto-- because without a key they ain't driving it away. Two wheelers are much easier to steal -- 4 guys and two metal poles and they just walk away with it into a truck or trailer.

Only so much precaution you can do -- if someone wants something bad enough-- they'll find a way to take it.

I've been all over and left my key in the bike-- using the IPS -- and have never been concerned -- of course I use the bike for 100% transportation while on a trip -- so it's never far from me.

Kind of an odd bike to steal -- even to part out --- gonna stick out like a sore thumb when they do try and part it out.

Sad. What a low down thing for someone to do. Hope your insurance doesn't give you a hard time and you are back on three soon.

Keep an eye on Ebay. Used parts will be easy to spot because it's very rare used parts for Spyders are on Ebay besides stock exhausts, windshields and take off wheels. If you start finding used controls, engine componets ect... from the same place you will find your Spyder.

Well, I know what state I am going to stay out of with my Spyder. nojoke

It could happen anywhere.

I've seen a few Spyders parted out that were crashed-- so it does happen -- but this one should stand out for sure.

This kind of theft could happen anywhere.

Speaking from a bit of experience in this area, best you have insurance covering theft. I'm truly sorry for your loss. Unfortunately this world has some sorry lots.
