There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I have a 2011 RT Limited Edition ... is there anyone else who is having trouble controlling their blinker? It is soooo touchy! When I try to turn it off, it seems to always go from left to right or vice versa. This could almost be a safety recall. I am sure the drivers behind me are equally as frustrated.

In addition, in the first 1,200 miles, I have had my left front panel fall off and I completely lost my antenna. And now I have a front fender light burnt out. My husband is ready to tackle the $900 CB and wiring harness package just so I can have intercom. He is not happy.

But I am really enjoying the Spyder! Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that the anti-lock brakes work really well...no one hurt, nothing destroyed. So all is good, except for that poor turtle that is still spinning out there somewhere on a highway in Minnesota. :ohyea:

:welcome: The turn signals can be a PITA but I find if you hit the cancel button twice you can be sure that they turn off. Do you have a 2010? I thought that they changed the design of the left panel on the 2011 and added a hook or something to keep them from coming off. That and the antenna should have been fixed as part of a service bulletin if yours is a 2010.

I put the radio antenna on with thread locker and thus far it has not come loose again. As someone said above all the complaints you are having are 2010 problems which were supposed to have been fixed for 2011. Gee you don't suppose they didn't? BuRP would never lie would they? Bill :yikes:

Odd thing.
I have a 2010, lost a panel, got new panels with the hook. No problem.
I hapened to look at two 2011's on my dealers floor..............NO HOOK. I just don't understand.
And I'm certain they were 2011's. They had the redesigned winglets, new windsheilds and a higher sticker price.

It takes some getting use to. I have to "center" the switch and hold it in for one or two seconds. It is touchy.

Yes, I also experienced this when I traded in my 2008 RS on my 2010 RT last spring. It is a touchy switch, however, the more I've ridden the RT the more I've gotten use to it. I don't seem to have that issue as much any more. Only when I need to cancel a signal and I'm wearing heavy gloves do I tend to not shut off the signal and switch from left to right of vice a versa. But I'm more aware of it now and it doesn't happen nearly as often as when I first got the RT.

Had the same issue with the turn signal canceling on 2011 RT, found that if I pressed the switch harder and not just bump it with my thumb I dont have the problem, takes some getting used to. Love my :spyder2:

I also have a 2011 RT Limited. Yes, I did have a lot of problems in the beginning trying to use my blinkers. When trying to turn them off they always went from left to right and I could not control them. Owners manual says: When turning off your blinkers off press the button in. I am a female with smaller hands and I have not had any further problems since pressing the button in to shut them off. Guess I should have read the owners manual a bit more thoroughly?! :lecturef_smilie: I was so excited after getting my :spyder2: that I sort of brushed through that section. :opps: I do agree there could be a bit of a better design there though. Now my biggest problem is trying not to honk my horn every time I reach for the blinker! :roflblack: Guess things could be worse.

I have experienced the blinker and the antenna problem. No problems with panels falling off. Dealer replaced missing antenna. Blinker does require some finesse from time to time.

Just drive in Jersey, The use of turn signals is optional, Besides just because someone has their left signal on doesn't mean they won't turn right. :gaah:

Well, speaking of turn signals,,, I got pulled over yesterday because the officer wanted to check my license to see if I had a MC endorsement. When I asked him why he said because I turned on my right signal, left signal, right again and was only doing a lane change. He also did a sobriety test. Yup, the turn signals are a pain.... Then I got the chance to let him turn it off and he just laughed and said "now I know".

We have had out 2011 RT-S for a month and had the same issue with the blinkers. Our left side panel does have a hook at the top. Its more of a lip that hooks over the fairing thats above the left side panel. So far so good. The issue we have had is a squeeky belt and rear brakes squeel at low speeds when stopping. Sometimes the SE5 doesn't down shift when she comes to a complete stop. Had to manually down shift to get the bike going again.

Best turn signal cancel method for me is to push it straight in (in center position) and hold it 1-2 seconds. It will cancel on release. Not foolproof...but better. Missing side panels are usually the result of improper installation (hook not fastened over underlying panel) or pushed through grommets. If your dealer did not install it correctly, he owes you a new one. A lost antenna on a 2011 is the result of poor dealer preparation. He owes you an antenna, too.

Had Kawasaki Voyager years back that had self cancelling turn signals after the bike had traveled a certain distance. I liked that a lot better than the 30 second timer on the Spyder. If I recall, the Voyager signals canceled after traveling 100 or so feet. That way all I had to do was signal for my intentions, and 100 feet later, signal was off. Fool proof. Had several bikes with self canceling controlled by distance traveled, but the Kaw came to mind first.

I took your advice scotty about holding the turn signal switch in for 1-2 seconds and found that they cancel a lot better, thanks:2thumbs:

Instead of trying to switch the button off or move it to center, just tap on it and push it in.

On mine the button automatically goes to the center. Sometimes when I tap it it works, most times it does not. I have tried the hold it down and it does work better, but in traffic it is a pain to try and remember to play with the turn signal when I should be concentrating on the traffic. Even just having to glance down for a second to see if it turned off is a distraction, in my opinion.

Blinkers: I would be happy to turn em on to signal left or right with my left thumb and cancel em with a button under my right thumb. My right thumb is underworked anyways, compared to all the work the left one does! Just a thought, I have mucho trouble turning them off, the following traffic mostly doesn't know what my intentions are :hun: even when I'm stone cold sober! :roflblack:

I almost forgot, the blinkers on my 2011 RT self-cancel when I do a 90, or near 90 turn. It took a while for me to realise that was happening, as I became quickly into the habit of frantically prodding at the button after every turn to cancel. Has anyone else got experience of this?

My turn signal seems to work fine on a 90 degree turn and self cancels. Changing lanes is another issue. I go to traffic court in a few minutes for failure to signal a lane change. It was just too much hassle and took away my concentration. Don't know how the judge will see it, but I think it was a bogus call by the cop. I tried to explain (what a wast of good breath):gaah::gaah::gaah:. Oh well!

Ride in comfort,

John
