I have been pondering this in my head for quite sometime and have been very reluctant in posting my thoughts, in lue of the blacklash that I will receive from some. I am only posting my opinion and please know I'm no means am a expert, just a guy with a keyboard. I know opinions will differ between us all. I'm not trying to start trouble, just a simple observation opinion.

But... After seeing many pictures of Spyders on this forum and in person, it really turns me off when I see a RS with a windshield higher than the stock one. IMO it makes the Spyder ugly when this is done. The rest of the Spyder looks great with all sorts of mods and paint schemes. But when my eyes hit the high windshield portion of the Spyder it is a big turn off for me. The RS model does not look good to me with a high windshield. I'm counting on you to draw the younger generation to the sporty look of the RS and you are not doing the RS any justice with a high windsheild. If you need a high one for some unknown reason please buy the RT. That one looks good with one. I have the ultrasport shield and I see no good reason for a high windshield that a good full face helmet would not cure. OK, you can beat me up now.

I know some will not comment on this blunt opinion topic, so I'm offering a poll for your opinion. Please vote on this.

:agree: The look of the spyder with the stock windshield is awesome.

But...

Since most of us do not like getting beat up from the wind we have no choice but to go bigger. My newly purchased 25" Ultra Touring windshield eliminates the wind and looks really good. IMO

i would love to have goten the rt but im retired and could not aford it and i dont like the wind beating me up.and as of wearing a full face helment i dont wear a helement so the wind sheld dose it for me,and i hate to see people wearing helments that dosent get the full joy of riding, but like you just my take on it .ive been riding for 55 years 50 motorcycles and i dont lke wearin helments when i started riding there were no helements .except on race tracks, but i sure would lke an rt .

But as you said, you are not getting the "FULL JOY" of ryding if you have a high windshield either. It's serving the same purpose as a full face.

Can I vote twice???

That's one of the reasons we bought the RS & RT.
but I still like my larger windshield on the RS. . . .

So if I vote twice . . . would that make you twice the jerk that you are already??? :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

I can tell you that I love my stock windshield for around town...and agree the look is awesome. But I do a lot of traveling with the spyder...done over 25,000 miles on my first spyder and probably 23,000 of those spyders had an aftermarket high windshield. The wind and rain will take a toll on you with the stock windshield. I have the Chad winshield and agree it doesn't look as good as stock but it does the job of protecting my body. I have done over 15,000 miles with the Chad....unfortunately it seems they are out of business now.

I too like the look of the stock shield, do not like most of the tall shields out there, but love not getting bounced around by the wind. I would love to buy a RT, so when are you going to send me the $25,000? :D
PS: Everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is, so you are not a jerk for posting it.

:dontknow: I don't think you're a jerk but I do not agree with your assesment of a taller windshield. On my trips in 2008 to Valcourt, Quebec, St.Ignace, MI and Gatlinburg, TN., 2009 to Mackinaw City, MI, L.A. and Mosheim, TN., 2010 to Cuba, MO. and Chicago,IL and 2011 to Cuba, MO., I never thought twice about how some guy in May of 2011 would say that I was letting him down by having a taller windshield that was a turn off to the younger guys. :D

The stock windshield is great for putzing around town and I used to switch it out only for the longer trips but I found a touring windshield that I think looks good, lets plenty of "clean" air flow around me and allows me to ride any distance in comfort at any time.

I like her look....

Before I give my oft impressive opinion, I freely admit I am in the minority. A very small minority!

And I fully support any configuration that someone wants to ride. Everyone should ride what they want, the way they want it.

Having these disclaimers in place (and prepared to get beat up), I don't like the look of the taller to extremely tall shields. UGLY!

I guess on this point I may be with the majority.

But I've always been less about looks and more about function. Usually (especially with Lamont around) we find a way to get both, or pretty close.

But even if tall windshields looked really cool (good luck with that) I would have a small shield. I love getting beat up by the wind. It's a big reason why I ride.

Been to California, Florida, Canada and more running 75~85+ all day long. Wouldn't have it any other way! It's the only way to fly! :D

Maybe when I get old I'll change my mind! :roflblack:

Now for the taller guys like BJT I can see it. He really sticks up into the wind and has nowhere to hide! :yikes:

Oh, by the way, I like the stock seat too! Another less than mainstream opinion. :ohyea:

Personally I don't like the look of a real tall windshield on any MC. Shorter looks sportier. But tall shields exist for a reason: they have their advantages. Persoanlly, I put on a shield just a tad taller than the stock, but not 'too tall'. Comparison pics below...

I'm not going to vote for the poll primarily because while I don't agree with arntufun, I don't think he's a jerk. So there is nothing I can answer that fits the choices he provided.

I like the taller windshield mostly because I don't like bugs on my chest. I can take the wind, but not the bugs!! That's just YUCK plain and simple.

The previous owner included a very tall windshield, which I've used almost exclusively, yet I also have just recently decided that's it's way too tall for my height. So I plan on getting a smaller tall windshield. Maybe the ultra one instead. The current shield is 25" and I'm 5'4".

Yes, I also agree the sporty one looks awesome!! Just not for me, though. Sorry, arntufun!!!!

Voted, But i don't think arntufun is a jerk. (no other options???)

Well, considering that I'm the one who sold you your Ultrasport windshield, I guess you know my what I think already!!! :roflblack:

I could take the wind, but we have way too many bugs here in New England that go with the wind! lol I was getting plastered.

I have the stock one still unused. But, I put the CHAD on there. It works for two up the best. I do agee it's ugly. I wish I could round the corners the way Lamont did. But, I fear that I might ruin it when I tried. So, I just leave it be.

Don't know how I will vote yet, because I do think you are a bit of a pain :joke:

I'll go vote now.

I started out with the stock windshield, but rode in heavy rains for almost the entire first 3 weeks I had my Spyder and something had to give. I decided to give the BRP Sport Touring windscreen a try. It was taller, but still sporty looking to me. The major problem was the way it routed the wind turned me into a bobblehead and after a couple of hours ryding my neck would be sore. I then switched to the Givi, which is a little taller than the Sport Touring, but still looks sporty to me. This works extremely well for me.

I was actually thinking about going back to stock for the summer, just to see how it felt again, but then remembered how bad the bugs around here are and changed my mind. :roflblack:

You should have had an option for don't agree but you are still a good guy, then I might have voted. :D

I hate the look of my tall W/S I do ride with a FF helmet what sucks is I have a bad neck and the positive pressure on my face for extended rides were a killer, so I hate it but I went tall and can ride all day. If I could I prefer the low but I wouldn't end up riding the miles I like. You are not a jerk at all,,, until you tell me to buy a RT. I will race you with my RS with a tall windshield a Drag, a Twistie, and last but not least a reverse slalom course. Beat me 2 out of 3 I'll buy a RT, I beat you 2 out of 3 you buy a RT and I have a windshield made special for you--about 42" high:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

Fun poll
