Grill on Right Side?

Mr. White

New member
I never paid much attention, but today, while wiping down BR1, I noticed a small grill on the left, but none on the right. I can see the radiator and fan in the opening on the right. Am I missing a grill?

Nope. It's built that way. My theory is that is to allow maximum unrestricted air flow.

Some folks have played with damming the flow on the top opening to force the air out the bottom. I want to see some evidential data before I do it.

Kind of weird isn't it? They should put a big warning in bold print in the owners' manual Right Side Grill Intentionally Left Blank.

On my trip out here to CA I have been stuck at a border patrol check point at 96 degrees and I've had no issues with heat. One of the best mods I've done. nojoke

That says a lot. Thanks Lamont.

After I got home from picking up my new Spyder in March this year I phoned my dealer and caused him to make demands of BRP to send out the missing grill for the RHS of my RT. He was sure, as I was, that there HAD to be a grill to match the one on the other side of the machine and that somehow it had been overlooked during assembly.

He phoned 2 days later, very embarrassed, to say that the trike as delivered was complete. BRP (Europe) had investigated and they had assured him that a grill for the RHS of the RT didn't exist. :sour:

We live and learn. :joke:

the same

i caught my dealer at the car wash when i was a spyderfest in cuba told him that they must of left my screen off when they serviced it and then i learned:dontknow:

You know... A pair of matching grilles in chrome... :2thumbs:

Sorry! Just "getting my shine on" this Friday the 13th!

My thanks to all. The missing grill does not bother me, I just thought I had lost it and that would bother me.

Lamont, did you make or buy your mod? I seem to remember a metal plate of some sort about the size of the hole where a grill would go. I will go back and look for the post on your mod. I guess it directs the hot air down off of your foot peg. I do notice the hot air when I have my foot on my Spyder peg.

I guess in Canada, it would not make a lot of difference, but it would in south Texas.

George,

Lamont made his and also removed both panels from the bottom of the Spyder. This increases airflow from underneath and also gives the deflected radiator air a place to exit the Spyder.

Thanks, Mark. I may look at one advertized on this board as I have not manufacturing capability here...or knowledge for that matter. ha ha

However, it is now getting hot in south Texas....ha ha

I'm looking at Kewlmetal's grille to fill in that pesky hole. Are there any others out there? :dontknow: (Just looking to match up to the left side grillework...)

ESI makes a grill for the right side too.

Hi BR1
I will let you know how bad the heat is from the Rt this summer and I agree with you it will not be as hot as it is in Texas :yikes:

Spyderpops "Hank" called this addition the LaBlock after LaMonster.

This is what I added, deflects about 90% of the heat, I no longer use my Kewl metal grill as it was too difficult to
clean behind it with the LaBlock shield.
