• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anybody Install a Shortee Antenna?

Does anyone have a how to ... or at least some information on what panels/tupperware need to be removed in order to (1) access the base of the stock whip antenna on the right-rear of the Spyder and/or (2) to punch out the panel hole; identify the mounting hardware (if additional is needed) and mount the hardware needed to mount a shortee antenna on the left rear of the Spyder?

I have reviewed the installation instructions for the Shorteez antenna on the ESICycleproducts site. It talks about simply removing the boot, unscrewing (I presume a set screw) replacing the boot, and screwing in the adapter, tightening the set screw and replacing the boot. Problem is, from the viewpoint of the hole under the boot, I can't see a set screw.

I think that if you pull the "boot" loose and slide it up and out of the way, you'll be able to see the setscrew... it all happens under that boot! :thumbup: Once you loosen it, the antenna slides out fo the "bawe" which holds everything solid and on the bike...
(At least that's how I remember things happening under there...)
 
Not sure if you have an antenna now or you are just adding one because they look cool ? Anyhow you pretty much have to take the speaker pod off and add an brass block that is threaded to receive the antenna if you are starting from scratch.
 
Install

Remove the boot from your existing antenna. It simply pops out of the slots in the tupperware. Unscrew the antenna. Mount the boot over your shortee and re-install.Elapsed time for the switchover is approximately 2 minutes if you set down the beer and use both hands.:2thumbs:

Easiest install going and instant results.
 
Correction: the set screw is in the adapter that screws into the base. Simply unscrew the factory antenna, screw in the adapter, slide the shortee into it and tighten the setscrew...

I'll look again. I think I'm hearing my current stock whip is screwed in; therefore it just screws out (unlike the reports from many who say they are loose, mine seems very tight). Once it's out, I screw my new base in, insert the new Shorteez with the boot pre-positioned up the mast, tighten the set screw, re-seat the boot and that's it. Cool.

To fastfraser ... I'm adding the second antenna, not to simply 'look cool,' but to configure it with a CB receptacle cable in the trunk to which I can connect my Midland 75-822 if out in the middle of nowhere and I need more range. But, no one here seems to have the experience of setting up the antenna on the left rear side from scratch. Your insight about removing the speaker pod was the most insight I've heard yet.

I know I've had the speaker pod apart on the radio side and there is a brass block screwed to the pod with a threaded hole to receive the antenna . So I would imangine you would have to go the same route for the CB side and order that brass block for the CB side as I'm sure the antenna set-up is the same for both sides.Also on that brass block is a place to screw your new antenna cable .

I just got through adding the second antenna for my RT, the parts cost approx. $34.00 from my dealer. I did not get the hardware, just went to Lowes and got what I needed, will be a little bit more if you have them order. You will have to remove the speaker box to mount the brass block. I tried to find my receipt before replying, but could not find it, I just got back from Spyderfest and am trying to get back in the swing of things. I can get additional info tomorrow once I find the receipt or look up the parts needed.
I did mine because I like balance, think it looks better with the two of them and was thinking about using them for two flags. I did replace my original one with the shortee as well as the new one I added.

:hun: Also, don't forget the boot.
 
First item listed is the boot (parts fiche 09 luggage A item number 65), second item is the block (parts fiche 10 electrical accessories 3, item number 21 if you want the mounting hardware include items 22 - 25 and 27).
