• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

NO LIGHTS AND NO STARTER BUTTON

Please help anyone. I've taken the trottle housing, clutch, and horn, light housing off the bars to install easy riser handle bar extensions. when I went to put everthing back together to start the bike and make sure the cables were good, the starter button doesn't work. The dash lights up, and the horn works, but the starter button doesn't work and the lights dont come on with the key turned on either. I've checked all the wires to see if I've pulled one out. Everything looks good there. I've checked the fuse box also and fuses are good also. What am missing? This is driving me crazy, and I'm hoping to fix it myself so that I don't have to take it the dealer.

What am I missing or doing wrong:yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes::yikes:. Please help. Thanx Aaron

Ya I've tried the kill switch also. It's not that either. I'm wondering if I've missed something that's not so obvious. It's mind boggling why it won't even turn the lights on when the key is on, but the whole dash works.

The lights won't come on till it starts. Is it in gear?

If the riser block is painted, it wouldn't conduct electrically. Try using a jumper wire from chassis ground to exposed bare metal above the riser. It that works, you've found the culprit. Scraping away some of the riser paint in appropriate areas where it makes connections would be needed to re-establish the grounding capability.

ground connection

Another point. Anodizing on the aluminum risers adds more insulation. An anodic coating is a dielectric thus an insulator. I installed them and sanded an exposed small area inside the brackets to bare metal just to make sure there was a good good connection.

won't stsrt

Is it possible the riser has interrupted the ground path that the controls rely upon?

What does the ground have with him starting his :spyder2:. Everything is allready grounded on the switches and controls thru a separate ground to everything. I think that a wire must have come loose when he put on the risers. Check the wires for the kill switch. That is my opinion.

:agree:

They are the ESI easy riser's, not the block riser. I've also tried pulling in the clutch too. All I did was take the assemby's off, unhooked a couple zip ties and then pulled them out a bit. Ive went over the wires and everything seems attached just fine. I'm thinking trailer it 80 miles to the dealer now cause I can't figure it out. Thanks for the suggestions and I'll let you know what it was. P.S. The wife ain't a happy camper right now:cus: cause I broke her Spydy. :chill:

Well the :spyder2: is fixed and it wasn't anything big, thank goodness. Nicole took the bike to the dealer this morning and told them what I had did and what was happening and left it with them. Later on in the day they called her up and explains what the problem was. Apparently when you take the throttle housing off the handle bars and put it back on, the throttle cables have to go back on in the right position. What I did was when I put it back together, one off the throttle cables was hung up which in turn had the throttle body or injection, what ever it is, half open. There is a safety device on the spyder that won't allow the bike to start if the cables are hung up. I was so relieved. I was worried that I had done major damage that could have cost a lot of money to get fixed. And Nicole is very happy her Spyder is ok. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the follow up
Sometimes people forget to report what the fix was.
My twist on the old saying is; A ''really'' wise man learns from other peoples mistakes.

Thanks for posting what the fix was as this will likely come in handy for some others down the road as well. Glad everything was sorted out without any major difficulties.
