• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Clicking Brakes?

Rode my wife's RS the other day and noticed a clicking sound coming from the front tires when I applied the brakes, don't recall hearing this before.

It is a 2009 with only 7,000 miles. Any ideas?

Thanks,
RJB

If you're talking about a 'buzzz' type of clicking-- that is normal... does it change depending on your speed? That is the holes in the discs making noise as they touch the pads--- normal.

Do you have an SE?

At low speeds I sometimes hear a click that I believe is the centrifugal clutch doing it's thing as the spyder decelerates... then another click again later as it releases just before stopping. Normally these clicks are nearly at the same time (maybe I stop too hard) but when slowing down slowly it happens every time... on my wife's spyder as well.

I think Scotty hit this one on the head the last time it came up:yes:. The clicking (not the buzzing) is the VSS disengaging from the front wheels when you slow down.:lecturef_smilie:
The buzzing is caused by the holes in the rotor passing under the brake pads and air gets slightly compressed within the holes. When the holes emerge from under the pad, the compressed air expands rapidly and you get a little "chirp" from each hole. The number of "chirps per second" decreases with speed but the frequency of each chirp stays about the same.:lecturef_smilie:
My $0.02

Rode it again yesterday to confirm and it is one or two clicks from the front brakes just when the brake is applied, not continuous. Maybe it has always done that but I only noticed it cause I was cruising around the neighborhood without a helmet. Don't want to make a trip to the dealer if it isn't a problem. It is a SM5. Is this the VSS disengaging?

That is normal...related to the ABS brakes.
