• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Spyder is worse than an ice cream truck?

He's entitled to his opinion and he is right about the license issue...in MD, you get a 'M' class license with a 'J' restriction...meaning, three wheels only...no problem as I'm never going to get a two wheeler...of course you should not get a two wheeler license if you test on a three wheeler...duh...however, the same should apply as well, IMHO...

As far as his take of the bike and comparing it to an ice cream truck, I always loved those trucks growing up...always brought a smile to my face...just like the Spyder...fair enough assessment for me!

I will cut him some slack as he states he has nothing against the bike. What he is guilty of not knowing the license procedure for many of the states which is take the test on 2 wheels you can drive both test on three then you are limited to 3. I understand its a blog and not an artical per se' but he looses credit when he miss typed.
 
Here in Ontario we have graduated liscencing. After you get your beginner liscence M1 and then you take a road test to get to M2 liscence. Whatever you ride for your road test is what only you can drive with the exception of a two wheeler , If you take a trike on your road test then you will have a restriction placed on your liscence that you can only drive trikes and the same for scooters and mopeds. If you use a motorcycle for your test then you can drive any vehicle (ie trike bike or scooter) When you get your full M liscence the same restrictions are placed on your M1 liscence.

So the guy writing that blog needs to do more research and is misinformed as I am sure there are other parts that have similar liscencing standards

I just received an e-news letter from J & P and the article was in it. So I had to respond to it. J & P needed to know how we felt and I'm sure alot of you feel. So I will post what I sent them. Let me know if any of you feel the same way.

First of all I would suggest that you tell Lowell to keep his opinions to his self on different types of rides. With him putting down the Can Am Spyder and as a spokesman for J & P. He is going to ruin your business with the Spyder owners. We have done business with J & P for years with all our other bikes Hondas and Harley, and now we own a spyder that we have been over to your store in Ormand Beach Fl. I just took an endorsement course with the spyder to get my license. It was great. I got a 100 on the driven part and 96 on the written. You do all the maneuvers on a three wheel trike as you do on a two wheel. Just a wider radius in the turns. The course is in Eustis FL. You have to qualify for your license just like you do on a two wheel. But you are restricted to a three-wheel vehicle. We have a lot of friends that are owners of the spyder here in Fl. And all over the US. Just go on spyderlovers.com and see what they are saying about you now. Everyone has their own preference of what they like to ride. Many have different reasons for riding what they do. My husband and I now prefer the spyder over any of the two wheel bikes, they are just a lot of fun to ride. I think you need to have Lowell apologize to the spyder owners and tell him to just ride in a ice cream truck if he wishes. He needs to get on a spyder and ride it for at least 500 miles and see what they are about before cutting them down. Unless he apologize to us owners You have lost our business, There are more businesses out there like kuryakuan that want our business. John and Carol Gercken So thats how we fell. CJ
 
Although I agree with the point he was trying to make, i.e., a three wheel shouldn't be used to get a two wheel endorsement, why did he single out the Spyder and not mention ALL the trikes as well? Admittedly he began the article by saying he saw the commercial, but to mention only the Spyder I feel gave his argument less credibilty, JMHO.

This is the problem with the internet AKA World Wide Web...

Anyone that can type, can post what they want. Publishers of old are all but gone, and are replaced by opinionated home bodies that have a limited relationship with folks outside their home.

I am dead serious. Just watch. This will have to be fixed sooner than later. Old publishing rules will have to kick in, Wiki will shut down, and the newspapers (Not that they are any better) will all go online all together.

As the psychiatrist I know are telling me... More and more patients that they are seeing, are under 35, have less than 3 human to human friends, but hundreds or thousands online. And when they go into the real world, it does not match the reality of the world they think it is on the web.

Anyway... Every generation has issues they need to adressed at some point. All I am suggesting is this fella falls in the 800lbs. Internet Gorilla that can say what he want as he sees fit, kind of like we do at a coffee shop, but his thoughts and comments become a permanent fixture on the web... Vs. we get corrected right away and only a few find out about our silly thoughts... In reality, this confuses folks that are not in the know, and is causing issues in the real world.
 
I'd love to challenge his two wheels against my Spyder on the Dragon's Tail.

Then he could shove his parking lot test talent.
 
Who cares? Its a future technology as different from a two wheel motorcycle as a sports car is different from a bicycle.

And he is right about one thing. IN NO WAY WOULD RIDING A SPYDER PREPARE YOU FOR RIDING A BIG FAT TWO WHEELER OR RICE ROCKET. In fact if you applied a lot of the riding techniques we use everyday on a Spyder to a two wheel bike you would not be up and riding very long.

But again, who cares? Adopters of future technologies are always ridiculed by the Luddites who cling to the past as icons. I'm sure you will all will make fun of my MagLev Hybrid Spyder when I get it in 50 years. Where are the wheels on that thing? I don't ride no bike with out wheels that floats off the ground. lol :roflblack:

This is what I wrote.

Lowell I read this and a few of the other articles you wrote and I think you have a point and I would agree with you on one of them, if you take a test on a Spyder then you should be restricted to riding a Spyder or three wheeler. As we both know a motorcycle is as different to a Spyder as a 4-wheeler is to a dirtbike. Nothing much about it is the same other than being in the wind and the fact that their owners enjoy much of the same things like buying parts for them and going on rides.

My problem with your article is the way you dis the Spyder without ever riding one. I see you're a big fan of dirtbikes, do you dis the 4-wheel riders the same? If so I haven't found that writeup yet.

I started out on dirtbikes and raced them when I was younger. I rode Santee Sand Pits when Team Honda use to practice out there with Marty Tripes and Marty Smith. Back then the ATC 90 came out and even though it wasn't a motorcycle it was still a ton of fun and look where we are today because of the evolution of something other than a two wheeled dirtbike.

I would challenge you to find a local Can Am dealer and take one for a test drive. I can tell you that I have owned and ridden every type of motorcycle there is and I never thought I would fall in love with the Spyder the way I have. I have been cross country on my Valkyrie, my Boss Hoss and my M109R but I have more miles on my two Spyders in less time than all those bikes put together. I ride a Spyder because it's fun not because I have to.

I still have a custom M109R with nitrous that puts out 165hp and 159fts of torque and I have as much fun on my Spyder as I do on it. It really is a fun ride and deserves more respect than you gave it. Give a try before you dis the ride.

Too bad,really. Spyder riders like myself spend LOTS of money.

Please let us all know if they respond to your email. I totally agree with your statement that unless he PUBLICLY apologizes to us Spyder owners that they have lost my business and anyone else's who will listen to me. Word of mouth can do some powerful things......
