Nanny finally showed up to the party!

Well I finally got my first taste of how Nanny keeps us out of trouble...
I was returning some borrowed tools to a friend's house; it's a backroad and pretty much of an uphill journey. This road hadn't been visited yet by the Town Highway crew with their street sweeper, so it had a real nice layer of sand over the pavement. :shocked:
I got to a sharp right-hander (loaded up with sand!) and decided to see if Nanny could be coaxed out of hiding. This is a 25mph, 3rd gear turn... so I went in hot (30mph) and yanked the bars over and fed in power. The Spyder slid about a foot up front as the back spun fishtailed... for a moment!
And then the power just kicked out! It felt as if somebody yanked a plug wire off. Once I got slowed up a bit, it all went back to normal! No muss and no fuss! :thumbup:
So Nanny... I can see now that you're on the case! :2thumbs:
It wasn't nearly as obtrusive as I thought it would be...

Wow the 2010's must have a more lax nanny.
My 2011 cant even spin the rear tire going straight on gravel without the nanny taking the power away....

As much of an Olphart as I am when motoring around; this just seemed like the perfect place to poke her in the eye... An uphill, low speed corner with a real wide runout..
Sf... The tire spun so easy in that sand that it must have even surprised her! I don't think that too many traction-control equipped buggies could have made that turn without provoking their own electronics. I just wicked it up as I cut the bars so the results were inevitable...
Nanny did grab the reins quickly and transparently. I didn't notice any roughness to the engine; it just "sagged" a bit and then took back off once things slowed down.

I got this zig-zag uphill turn near my place. Everytime I try to rip around that corner (handle cocked, hanging off the extream right side with knee half way to the ground), the damn thing kicks in and takes all the fun out of goosing the throttle.:gaah:

Hmmmm.... not sure where that fits in with the current conversation?
As far as potholes go on the spyder its not really that big of a deal, Here in Pittsburgh we have streets that look like the surface of the moon and it doesn't seem to cause issue just hitting them as long as they aren't a foot deep....
The spyder doesn't even flinch, my 2 wheeler would just throw me off if I hit one......

It takes a bit of practice to dodge pot holes with a three wheeler. Aim just inside of the front wheel and maybe even strattle the inside edge over the edge of the pot hole. I actually turn a bit as soon as the front wheel pass the pot hole to get even more clearance for the rear wheel on some of the bigger ones. You'd be suprised how much you can dodge with practice.

Can't drag a knee so only half way down ... otherwise my other foot will be pointing in the air.:roflblack: But I find the front suspension soaks up the bump much nicer than the rear one. Rear one tend to want to buck me off the bike.

I live on a dirt/gravel road that tees into a paved 2-lane highway. When I make a left onto the highway to go into town, I usually have to punch it pretty hard to catch a gap in traffic, so the rear slides out on the dirt/gravel. So far, I haven't felt Nanny kick in, but it's only maybe half a second before I hit pavement and regain traction.

The Nanny kicking in is based on a few different factors and combinations of them happening. For instance, you can smoke the back tire without the Nanny kicking in, but if your front wheels are at a certain angle it will kick in quickly. Getting a front wheel to lift during a turn is usually cause for it to kick in as well. So the Steering Angle Sensor, Yaw Sensor, front and rear Speed Sensors, and probably some others as well are all working in concert. Hopefully the music at that concert is a sweet melody.

Every single day I have had it out since I got it home, same thing. I blame it on having a sportbike with TONS of power... i'm used to get up and go and the Spyder doesn't have it

In my truck, all I had to do was pull a fuse, so I don't know about hte Spyder

Really Glad the Nanny did her job for you. :2thumbs: IMHO 25 mph is too slow for 3rd gear. You want to keep your rpm at least at 4K. Lugging the engine is about the only thing the Nanny won't protect against.

I normally ride like an Olphart and hit 3rd at 23, 4th at 30 and top gear at 38... I don't know when the rev limiter might kick in because i start getting nosebleeds above 5000 rpm... :shocked:
Actually the computers won't let the SE 5 upshift if your rpms are too low...

The Nanny sucks. Everyone has their own opinion about it, and most will say they are glad it's on there, but I hate it. At least in it's current form. I had such a good set going yesterday carving up highway 9 and constantly had to adjust my lines to work around the stupid Nanny and that ridiculous outside braking that it does. I don't see why they couldn't make it adjustable to some degree. A simple switch and you can have a setting that allows you to get a bit more aggressive and have some fun.

I would also gladly trade reverse for a sixth gear. But I guess that's another topic!
