• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Spyder Mod's list help

Questions

New member
Ok so I bought my spyder last week, and over the next 6 months I will be slowly adding different things....below are the mod's are currently plan on adding...I have questions about a couple of them

1) Dual two brothers black series exhaust

2) P1 tips for the two brothers exhaust....I think the p1 is better because the p1x I believe will reduce the nice sound to much, more than I want it reduced or muffled.

2a) Juice Box

3) HID's -- I want HID's for the regular lights and I want HID fog lights -- what is the best HID kit? I see alot of folks using different kits and sometimes the regular hid light and the fog light almost have different "colors"...when I think of HID I think of the "light blue" glow they have like on some cars....I like that glow...I see the prices range from 40 bucks to 800..what is the difference? I def cant spend 800 bucks on the kit but 200-300 for each light totallying 600 bucks should be fine...

4) LED's!!!!! I want my bike to glow!! I have researched a few different kinds...I saw some that had a bunch of different colors and you click a remote and it goes through the colors like a christmas tree...I dont like that, to "girly looking" for my taste...I want one or two, three really bright colors -- ex) red, yellow, green...or all of one color...what is the best kit on the market....then I have to decide how many LED's to buy....I want to go overboard with the ground effects so I will take all opinions!!

Thats its for now...maybe a seat mod or something but the 4 above are the ones I for sure plan on doing....I have the 2011 rss black/silver so I already have a good color scheme with blacked out rims

I will answer your questions the best I can. If you could make it to Spyderfest that would give you a chance to see many of these mods in person, listen to different exhaust notes, check out lighting packages, and most of the site sponsoring vendors will be there doing installs as well.

1) Dual Two Brothers is a good choice and should hold up well on the Spyder. Pricey, but a good choice if you want the dual pipe look.

2) You nailed the difference between the tips, so it is just a matter of how loud you want your Spyder to be. Sounds like the P1 would work well for you.

2a) Juice Box may not be needed depending on what else you are going to modify. If you just change the exhaust you will not need it as the ECM can adjust for that. If you also change to different air filter, or air intake system, then you may need the JB. I am running a K&N filter in the stock air box with a Hindle exhaust and am using the O2 Modifier instead of the JB and my Spyder performs quite well with that set up. I could get a JB and tweak it more I am sure, but I am happy with it the way it is right now.

3) There are many options for HID lights as you have found. The prices are all over the map. The main thing is you need to have ones that will work with the Canbus system, as long as they do you should be okay. The color comes from the Kelvin temperature of the bulbs which is referred to as K. They start at 3,000K which is yellow and as the K level increases they get more white and then change over to blue. 10,000K or 12,000K would give the nice blue color you see on the cars.

4) LED options are also limitless and there are site sponsors who sell those as well. You have to decide what parts of the Spyder you want to light up, and then see who has the lights that will do it for you.

If you check out my mods thread by clicking on the link below my signature picture, you can see all kinds of LED lighting options with the name of the products and where I got them from. You can also check out the HID lights I installed on my Spyder. This may help you in deciding which way you want to go with your mods.

I hope that helps, and wish you the best with making your Spyder yours.

I read through that and it sounds like anywere from 5k-8k is best and probably go with 35w so I dont have any melting issues

Why is there difference in prices?

The kewl metal ones I believe are 250 each, is that a decent price? Does it include all the stuff to install both the headlights and foglights?

After reading that link I am alittle hesitant to install the fog lights because it looks like everyone is having problems starting their back...I am not a electrical guy so if I will have problems I def do not want to go down that right....I appreciate your help!

The differences in pricing is somewhat based on what you get in the package, but not totally. The reason the BRP kit is so expensive is they give you brand new lens housings, with a different bulb mounting style, along with the bulbs and ballasts. However, if you have the factory fog lights then you would also need to purchase a separate wiring harness that is close to another $100.

You are also correct that the ones from ESI cost $250, they are also the same as Custom Dynamics. They are supposed to be plug and play, but I cannot speak to that as I have no experience with them. Others on here have them and should be able to give more insight on the installation process.

From what I was able to gather, most of the other HID kits are basically the same. As long as they are rated to work with the CanBus system they should be okay.

I ordered mine from an online company and was able to do both the headlights and foglights for a total of $125. I had a little bit of difficulty getting the bulbs installed into the stock holder, until I was able to lift the console some and actually see what was going on. BRP uses a metal bracket to hold the stock bulb in, and the HID bulb wasn't meant for that bracket. That is why BRP sells their kit with the new lens cannisters. ;) I had to cut the metal bracket, and then mount the HID bulb to it in order to get it to lock into the stock housing. Once I did that I was good to go. The foglight bulbs were truly plug and play.

I know many have reported problems with various things after installing theirs, but I haven't had any serious issues with mine at all. I couldn't be happier with the way they turned out.

I didnt see where it lists spyder...its just says motorcycle HID's...

Does the foglight have the same HID size? so you would just buy two of those kits?

It says conversion kits...do I have to buy stock fog lights before I can buy a conversion kit?

Headlights are H7, so you buy a kit for those, and the BRP fog lights are H8 so you need to buy a kit for those as well.

You must already have the BRP fog lights installed before doing this, as all you are buying is the bulbs, ballasts, and wiring harnesses. The BRP fogs come with new front intake pieces that have the actual lense canninsters on them.

So essentially this is what I need to do

HID headlight conversion kit -- roughly 150 - 250

brp foglight -- seems very expensive -- like 499
http://store.spyder.brp.com/product/255742/219400084/_/Fog_Lights

HID foglight conversion -- 150 - 250

so I would be spending nearly 750 bucks just to get HID foglights correct?

Or is there a much cheaper HID kit that comes with all the neccessary housing...so essentially a fog light kit that isnt a "conversion"

It all depends on what you really want to go with.

I got my HID kits from www.hidgeek.com . 35 watt bulbs are standard. I paid a little more for the slim ballasts, the 55 watt bulbs, and the 3,000K bulbs if I remember correctly. My entire bill was $125 shipped to the house.

I already had the BRP factory fog lights installed. You can usually find them a little cheaper than the catalog price, but you are definitely looking at over $300 if you go that route.

There are other options for driving lights available instead of going with the BRP fog lights, and many people think they are a much better option. A new one I just saw the other day is listed on the Coming Soon page of www.tricled.com . These are super bright LED set ups that will mount to the front fender brackets of the Spyder providing driving lights that also turn with the wheels. From the pictures they look like they are going to light things up very nicely. There are other threads you can check on here about driving lights as well.

To be honest, if I didn't already have the BRP fog lights installed, I would probably go with one of the other available driving light options and just get the HID kit for the headlights.

this is prob what I am going to do

I have to re-evaluate now...

I didnt realize I need to buy the factory fog lights first...im not paying 400+ to have HID foglights

I don't blame you one bit for that. It is quite pricey just for the stock foglights. Depending on the HID kit you go with, the price will go up accordingly.

Best of luck with whatever direction you take.
