• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Lamonster signs up for Guts & Glory Rally

I know there are lots of well-wishers out there, and a great deal of support. I think we need to look at this from the perspective of the riders, though. This is a grueling journey, with the fatigue factor multiplying exponentially, as the lack of rest and the rigors of the trip stack up to make for an ever-increasing desire to just quit and rest. The last thing these riders need is a throng of riders fighting for the same stretch of road, distracting them, or competing for the available resources. I think the organizers are right to make rules keeping the single-leg riders behind, and discouraging wholesale participation, lest the whole thing becomes overwhelming. We can best support our favorite riders by possibly being there at start or finish, but not socializing at in-between stops, and by pledging our financial contributions to a good cause. Corporate sponsorships to help defray expenses would also be encouraged...as would making parts/repair resources available when they are in the area...perhaps by providing emergency contact numbers after hours. Beyond that, I think we should leave them alone, unless invited, and let them ride their rides. Sorry to go up against the tide, but if I were competing, I would not be too friendly when I would rather sleep than chat or wave.

I agree 100%. If no one has ever done 800+ miles a day for 11 days, they have no idea how hard that is. At the end of each leg all a rider wants to do is rest, aka SLEEP. Getting overly fatigued can cause accidents and possible deaths. I have fallen asleep several times riding 2 wheels and how I never crashed has left me wondering many times.

:agree: Been there:done that!

Thanks for clearing that up.

1. They do mount a GPS chip to our bike and if I remember right you will be able to follow us on the Gut's and Glory website.

Answer: The Guts and Glory Rally will supply a GPS Tracking unit to each rider. The Rider's "Number" will be linked to a GPS unit that will be updated on our website. It will be "live" tracking.

2. They are allowing trailers and the "Guts" part of the trip is sleeping with your ride.

Answer: Trailers are allowed but, a rider is not allowed to have extra fuel in the trailer. They will NOT be allowed to sleep in the trailer.

3. You do get extra points for that.

Answer: For every night a rider selects "Camp Guts", 50 points will be added to their total.

4. I would say if you can pull it you can do whatever you want with it including sleeping in it but the G&G guys would have to say for sure.

Answer: Sorry, no sleeping in the trailer. All that is allowed for Camp Guts is a sleeping bag, bedroll, or a hammock. No tents or make shift shelters are allowed. Maybe this will give us all a little more respect for what our Military goes through daily.

5. The best way to help is to donate to the charity. You can donate as little as a penny per mile or as much as you like. This link will show you how to sponsor a rider.
http://www.gutsandgloryrally.com/GutsAndGloryRiderPKG-opt.pdf

Answer: You can also select the charity of your choice to raise donations for also. That is why the package was created. You can also obtain sponsorship for your personal expenses during the rally. That is up to you to decide. We made the sponsorship package for these reasons.
ie. Rider XX has a pledge of 10 cents a mile for every mile he rides (not to exceed 10,000 mile) to be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Center.
9435 miles Rider XX rides
x .10 cents per mile
$943.50 donated to Breast Cancer Research in the name of Rider XX

Thanks

This sounds very exhausting... but EXCITING!! I'd love to do this, but not at this point in my life.

Safe travels to you all!

Alright, lets all pull together and help the boys out. Things like, pull together in ride groups, help escort them accross your state, buy a few tanks of fuel, possible take care of a few dinner, meet them at the end of the legs help change tire, oil, or whatever they need. We just don't want to get in the way or slow them down! Also calling all dealer to help out, be there at the end of the leggs, with a tech, tools, possible parts, whatever it takes to help make the crazy race alittle easyer on them. I think with our help they can have the most support of all the ryders! Let's show them our love spyderlover, it our turn to give back!:2thumbs: Here's to the fantastic 4:2thumbs:

Bump! Let's keep this hot! We want our guys finishing in style.

Lamont and Ron,
I rode back to back Iron Butts with you two. I have seen Doc and Harvey ride across this country. I know for a fact that you 4 are the ideal choices to represent the SpyderLovers and the Spyder in this ride. If I had the spare time and the spare change, I would try to talk bjt into letting me join you on this adventure. It just isn't in the timing right now though. I am with you all in prayer and in spirit.

It was my pleasure to ride with you guys cross country and it would have been great if you could have made this ride too. I have no doubt you're made for this kind of ride and it would be great to have a lady SpyderLover to represent us. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers, we're going to need them.

You four are awesome just to consider this. I love to read the ride reports on AdventureRiders.com and (and on this forum) and somehow just sitting at the computer reading about some of those adventures gives me a little solace that I'm not along on such a trip. I've toured just enough in the last 20 years to appreciate what a challenge this rally will be and can hardly wait to live it vicariously through your posts - then take a hot shower and climb into a clean, soft bed:clap: Best wishes on your adventure, guys!

You were doing just fine until you included this in your post... :helpsmilie:
