• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. CB Problems

the thing that sucks is BRP did not issue a notice to the dealers to let them know it is a KNOWN issue. i had to argue with my dealer to list the item as defective and waiting for BRP and to NOT do anything on the spyder that would cost money diagnosing. they have to diagnose it for BRP to reimburse them (uuuugh).

I worried because the CB is an accessory and hence falls under the accessory warranty not the full Spyder warranty.

anyway it would save a LOT of grief and time if they just issued a notice to dealers letting them know this is an issue and its being worked on.

I still do not know how the 2010 that Tony installed the CB on does NOT have this issue. makes me wonder if there is something missing in the install like a ground wire or something that Tony figured out during his install that is not in the directions. maybe the 2011s they are installing correctly with new instructions. because he has to have the older 2010 firmware for spyder....

Another update

Today, I received a nice call (voicemail) from Carlo at BRP. He stated, BRP is aware of the PTT problem and working on getting it fixed. Carlo said, he would keep me informed on its progress. He thanked me for contacting BRP and is looking forward to speaking with me in the future.

I would like to say thanks to Carlo for his follow-up call.

They're working on the problem...

I too am very appreciative of Carlo's concern with this problem. He was extremely helpful with a clutch failure problem I had on my RT several months ago.. However, with this PTT problem, I would love to hear how they, BRP, knew enough to fix the problem on the 2011 RT's and couldn't proffer a fix for the 2010 RT CB PTT problem. Knowing that they were aware of this problem several months ago...Regardless, if they would just fix ours, 2010 RT's.. It would be very nice.....Len

bump to keep this on the front page of this section... hopefully we hear something from BRP on a fix before riding season starts here in Early April.

Hello Paul,

BRP released an update of the gauge software last September. Your dealer should be able to apply this update to your bike at your next service appointment. Ask for the 2011 MY gauge software update.

If you have any other questions, I will be happy to assist you.

Best regards,

I got this e-mail from the guys at Radio Sound. I have not called my dealer about this. They are the ones who make the CB Radio.

hmm I doubt that will fix our problem. they had called BRP after that date late October and no fix yet then.

hopefully I am wrong.

An issue with me may be that I have one of the demos...so mine was made prior to the PE machines. Maybe they did something during that preproduction for the demos that was different....

that probably is it! so you have one like Lamont... we already saw that his had the headlight adjustment cable that never made it into production. I bet your running a different display software package as well... hmm I wonder if you can update to the latest software firmware someone mentioned was released in October if that would Break the CB Radio transmit ...

My RTS was built in December '09 (PE #699)...certainly not pre-production and I still have the PTT problem.

Tony has a PREPRODUCTION before PE spyder. they are different then the ones built and sold to the public. I think he is right that they probably are running a different firmware as well in their computer.

something they did to the PE and later models broke the PTT function.

CB mY 2011

had the cb install done on my 2010 RTS. We have the cut out problem with helmet to helmet transmission. Will update correct this? Is is out as a service bulletin. is it a free update?

helmet to helmet is the intercom system. not related to this problem. your title says MY2011. do you have a 2010 or 2011?

anyway that is adjusted by the VOX setting on the dash. adjust the setting lower to activate the transmission between driver and passenger easier with less cut off or if you are transmitting all the time you can adjust up so its less sensitive to noise.

the CB will over ride your intercom communication. you can adjust the squelch to cut off any unwanted cb chatter.

CB PTT Problem Resolution?

Help please... CB comm is very important to Kim & I as we always travel together...hers & mine... On both our RT's...when transmitting... after we release the PTT button..the transmitter... (TX) stays on for several seconds afterwards.. Extremely annoying and down right frustrating if the other person trys to anwer you back and you're radio is still transmitting..

Anyone else had this problem. Len

Does anyone know what's going on with the CB PTT issue? It's been over six months since the issue was brought to BRP's attention and the only thing I've heard from BRP/Carlo is "the problem is fixed on the 2011 units and BRP is working on a software solution to fix the 2010 CBs".:gaah::helpsmilie:

Maybe Lamonster has some updated info?

Most of the 2010 Spyders are having trouble with the switch sticking and loud static when transmitting during travel... mine included. Apparently there's a software glitch on these 2010 bikes and the company (BRP) is trying to find a solution but none available as yet. This is very disturbing to invest this $$ and not have a working CB. BRP has resolved the problem with the 2011's. BUT, for the rest of us, we're WAITING.....

CB Schmeebee

I love my '10 Spyder RT-S.

I do not love BRP engineering in a proprietary, unreliable piece of communications equipment, which at this point I NEVER intend to buy. What BRP SHOULD have done was make it easier to integrate third party equipment.

The two I'm looking at are Midlands 75-822 ... a "wearable" solution that one can hook into a mounted antenna and power supply. What I'm confused about is whether the adaptable mic/headset has a remote PTT function.

The other of course is JM's JM2003CB for the Can Am Spyder. Now from what I understand, they only make it for the RS, AND with manual transmission only (http://www.cycleaccessorystore.com/product-p/jmcb-2003-caspy.htm). I was wondering if anyone out there knew of something similar adaptable to an RT-S? I see a unit for the BMW K1200LT (the Beemer has a handlebar configuration very similar to the Spyder RT). It hooks into the bike's cambus system.

In the meantime, I putter along with my Chatterbox for bike-to-bike. I see NAWTHING in this thread that would ever make me want to risk an $800.00 hardware purchase plus installation for the comm system BRP is offering.

left a message for Carlos ... now waiting for a reply on an update. I wonder if they could just do a full swap of the computer/display to 2011 version?

spoke to Carlo. they are still working on a solution and he has my number and will call when they come out with the solution.

I said hopefully soon as riding season starts in a few weeks here in the North East... and need the CB for group rides.

My Solution:

I'm going to buy a Midland 75-822 40-channel system, and a three-point holster. The battery life is 16 hours using powersave; or I can hook the unit into my second shorty antenna and 12v power I have hanging off my battery.

The CB is primarily needed when I'm ryding in a three-or-more bike formation, and possibly for emergencies. This is a fraction of the total ryding time I'm on the bike per season. If I'm alone and need commo, my first-eschelon remedy is my cell phone. So, my CB is about a $160.00 reliable solution, vs. a $799.00 unreliable solution. I also have my Chatterbox FRS2 from last year if FRS is the format in my ryder group. The Chatterbox was $250.00. So all spent for solutions that work, and for which I don't have to disassemble the Spyder was $410.00. Of course I'd luv a reliable, economical dual-band (CB/FRS) solution integrated into my RT-S ... It doesn't appear to exist; so I'm just sayin'. I do wish our community the best in its quest for the BRP solution.
