There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Need user input on communication sets...

I have a midland BT2 setup. Really easy to install, really nice sound and connectivity. Also, you can buy their walkies later on and connect them to your bluetooth and have a few miles of coverage between headsets. The kit I bought had 2 setup and came with 2 mics each and 2 sets of speakers, and 2 sets of mounting options.

I purchased a set of Scala Rider communication sets last year. The first time I got caught in the rain, the sets crapped out.:( and haven't worked since. I would not pay another penny for the Scala Rider sets:mad:. JMHO
bt

i have scala q2 rode from ft lauderdal florida to salem nh 3 days in the rain and they worked great .... never had a probelm with them ,,,they do say the q4 are a step up though ... there is a little cover on back of q2 make sure that is in tight so no water gets in ...:lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie:

We purchased the Scalarider G4 powerset before your 8K trip last year. One of the units crapped out while in mid-trip, but I got in touch with the company, and they shipped another unit to our next stop a few days later.

We really liked the way they work. The FM radio works great, communication between motorcycle/spyder was flawless. The phone feature, tho not frequently used by us, worked well. I used the wired MP3 player option and it worked great. Never tried the bluetooth mp3,tho.

We went thru horrific downpours with these units and had no trouble at all.

Just ordered a new Cardo Scala G4 Snow. I originally wanted a Sena SMH10, but I have two full faced helmets and you must order corded mics seperately with the SMH10 (brings the price up to, or over, G4). By all acounts, including here, these are great units!

I love my G4 powerset.... we've used it for almost a year now, with very few issues.
I got a new helmet and wanted the option to swich back and forth between helmets, so I purchased another audio kit (clamp, speaker and microphone) the second one being the corded microphone version
I will note that the corded mic version is not as sensitive as the boom mic version so somtimes my passenger (wife) cant hear me speak as clearly as she could with the boom mic version.

the corded mp3 (ipod) works better than wireless as the sound reproduction is always better when wired...the volume is also considerably more...

I really like my G4...wouldn't trade it for anything...just updated the most recent firmware update...some new tricks for the garmin 550 but haven't used it to see the differences yet...

I've checked on the internet and the price is all over the place for a pair of G4's. The best I can find is $306. If you don't mine, what did you pay and where did you get them; that is, if you purchased a pair.

What am I missing? I found the Sena here and it comes with the mics just like the Scala. Like I said in a post here, the best I could come up with for the Scala G4 was $306. Oh, I realize that the price of $306 isn't that much more than the Sena's.

I have the Scala Q2 (used with full faced Arai's) and the mic setup looks similar to the Sena.

I believe what he is speaking on is this... The one you have linked is a Boom mic type. He is referring to the recently released version (Cardo G4) with the "Wired" mic that you glue or Velcro to the inside face/chin area of the permanently closed face helmets...

I did purchase the G4 powerset snow. The price I paid was $315 incl. shipping. I saw several G4's for $305-306 with the boom mics. Purchased from american classic motors.:2thumbs:

Well here we are. Realizing that we actually communicate far more than I expected when ryding.:gaah: We still have the Can Am headsets/speakers on the shelf from our RT. But with no Can Am options for the RS they are just collecting dust.

So we have been reading off and on for the past year on what systems are good or better here and on the web.

We are trying to decide what is the best bang for our $$. We like to listen to music, conversations, a little GPS. and the phone is never used but you never know kind of thing. As far as communicating to other bikes... Never have on the road, but was off-road. So this may be an added bonus, just not a priority at this time.

However we would like to buy the right system the first time. Really grown tired of trying till we find the right one when it comes to electronics. We have read how the SMH10 was rated #1 last year, but a reviewer had five+ failures and that would not please me to much if it happened to me.

We drive in pretty much any weather and expect our communication choice to function regardless of conditions.

Your thoughts? And thank you for your time and efforts...

Big nod to the Midland setup! I have the pair and mount setup on all 3 of my helmets so I can switch the main unit to any of them. I use the driver to rider com, bluetooth to phone, bt to music, bt to gps features. I have not used it bike to bike but have tested the range and was impressed.:2thumbs:

This is all great info thank you. We are still researching and trying to decide. I figure once spring get's here I will need to have something in hand so I have a little bit yet...

The thing I liked was that you can buy their walkies and get like a 3 mile range. Great incase you get seperated from another rider, or if you ride with someone on 2 wheels that tends to go faster than you every once and a while. Allthough, If you hooked them to your phones, worst case scenario is you call em, lol.
