• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need Help! Desperate! Embarrassed!

Bought a year old SE5. Drove it home approximatel 125 miles. It has sat 12 days. I was away on business. Today I wanted to show the Spyder off to my friends. One Goldwing Trike and one Harley Trike. I rode it to our meeting place and shut it down. When I started it and tried to shift it into reverse it belched several times and would only show 1st gear. We pushed it into the road and I drove it in 1st gear 12 -15 miles to the dealership in Georgetown, Texas. The dealer hooked it up to a computer and could find no fault code.

We tried restarting it several times and it was consistent, belch several times and only produce 1st gear.

Was I a laughing stock! I rode out of the dealership on the back of a Goldwing.

The dealer has no idea!

Any comments would be appreciated!

welcome:congrats: Do NOT PANIC:helpsmilie: ,You have come to the best place to find out info about:spyder2:. There are a lot of fellow :f_spider: lovers who have great trouble shooting skills that will be more than willing to help you out.

Thanks!

Over the years I have owned many bikes and brands. I have never had to have one to the dealer for anything except routine maintenance.

This is not a good start.

Your kind words are appreciated.

Maybe, just maybe, these are a little too advanced.

I would think reliability would be the first goal. If I can't depend on it then I made a big mistake in this puchase.

There are too many long empty roads in Texas.

You did not make a mistake buying your:spyder2:. You just have a little set back don not get discouraged. The :spyder2: have had their share of problems but most are getting sorted out. Like I said before this a great forum to get help. So stay tuned because help is on the way.

I BELIEVE!

I will let you all know what the outcome is. The dealer did not inspire confidence. That is probably most of my consternation.

Thanks, again.

Hang in there! There is a learning curve involved with the :spyder2: and they are a bit Quirky at times, but you'll find that most of the problems are usually a simple fix. The best thing to do is :chat: and share information.
Good luck !

I have ordered a 2011 RT-S and ride a '02 Wing with a Motor Trike kit. I am slightly disturbed with the postings of things that go wrong with the various Spyder models....mostly computer related. Oh, the Wing has had the famous cracked frame problem. Mine didn't. It has never been in the dealer's in nine years. I guess BRP is working these defects and I will cross my fingers that I don't have these problems.

As many of you, I ride where there is no dealer of any make within 250 miles....if I would have a "computer" problem, I would be in deep kimchee....Oh, I am gonna get that RT....it is 180 degrees from the Wing, but as Clint says, "ya pays your money and ya takes your chances."

Rant over.

I'm sure you know Fred Rau and what a big fan of the Wing he is but what you may not know is he's put well over 40,000 miles on his RT in just over a year. I think he would tell you not to worry about taking the plunge.
http://blog.spyderfred.com

I took a trip last year on the RT that racket up just under 10,000 miles coast to coast by myself with no real issues. I had the one problem in Cuba but that was fixed right away and was a pretty simple deal.

50,000+ :spyder2: miles on 3 Spyders since 2008. 1 08, 1 09, and 1 10. All in Alaska and the Yukon Territory (there are some real lonely roads here). When I purchased, there was only 1 dealer in Alaska. Now there are 3. Have had minimal problems, and no on the road breakdowns in three years of :spyder2: ownership. They also seem to be getting most of the problems solved.

I bow to the man from AK. I was stationed in Grand Forks, ND for four winters...(2 weeks of summer) and I do know cold weather...and I hear is gets cool in your area too...ha ha

Yes, LaMont, I have followed Fred Rau for years and he speaks highly of the Spyder. I have already taken the step...my dealer mailed me a sales contract yesterday to sign and mail her with a deposit. She said 2-6 weeks before she gets the RT-S SE5 (RED) that I want. Hey, I can wait....maybe...hee hee

Thanks guys for the incouragement.

WOW!

Thanks, for the great response! My confidence is rebuilding, as the bike sits idle in Georgetown, Texas.

I am in line!

All you guys are confidence builders!

Thanks!

sidAras,

it will be interesting as to what they discover, please let us all know. How many miles are on the bike, you
said it was a year old, If you put the first 125 miles on then it could be something missed in the PDI or like
others have said the updates.

It will get resolved and you will have many enjoyable miles to add!

INCREDIBLE RESPONSES

I just got off the phone with Carlo from Can Am. He called to let me know he had followed up with the dealership and would continue. I have bought automobiles that have cost four times what the Spyder cost and have never had follow up and concern like I have gotten from this site.

I look forward to becoming a contributing member!

Thanks, all!

I just tacked on this thread. I am 75 and retired USAF. I have about 15 or so K on a RS/GS and now a RT. ( no real problems )I do not know you are a member of GWRRA or not, but if you are, read the tech columun for Gold Wings. A couple issues should scare amybody from owning a Wing. But I
know many people who have over a 100 K plus on their Wings with no problems.

Good Luck, Ride Safe and have fun. Come to some of the get togethers if you can. OldManZues

I have been riding various motorcycle makes for many years. Just like cars, they may have a problem or two. I've been riding Spyders since they were in pre-production and find they are as good as any other machine I have ridden. If you check out forums of other makes you will find rants about problems riders have with those machines too. I find that if you want it, buy it...if there is an issue, get it fixed...end of story.

I love Spyders:2thumbs:

NOW KNOW THE PROBLEM (Maybe)

After three days was just told the hydraulic control module was not getting oil pressure! What now?
