• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Please Prepare Me...

I came out of Lowes one day and a father had his son sitting on mine. Maybe 3-4 years old. I confronted him right away, he seemed shocked that I would mind. He said it was no big deal, that his kid thought it was really cool and I should be honored. I told him to show me his car so I could go sit it in it. He said why it's just a minvan, I said then you should be honored I want to sit in it.

I actually did go over to it and sit in it, pushed a few buttons and said now do you see why I am mad, just imagine if I was doing this while you were in the store.

I donned my helmet and drove off, feeling quite happy at how I handled it. Mind you I only had my Spyder for a few weeks when this happened. Not sure what I am going to do but I plan on doing something.

Like you all have said if he was waiting for me then asked, I may have said sure hop on little guy.

The sun cover helps, but my old dealer (now gone), let potential customers sit on my bike while it awaited service - they denied it, but I actually caught a salesman taking a client to it. He "didn't understand why I was incensed either".

This was a HUGE problem with my tricked out RS, much less with the Stock RT, which looks more Goldwing trike than toy/hot - the RS looks more like the ATVs that everyone has....

It never occurred to me that people would mess with motorcycles, Spyders, sit on them out in parking lots, etc., until I started reading the alarm posts. Do people REALLY act so invasive or does this occur more on a 1-3 times per year.

If it happens more frequently, I am going to want to get an alarm that activates when someone is too near the bike. All recs are welcomed. But I need your honest opinion how often this happens, particularly in a major metropolitan suburban area. To be honest, I am shocked that people would be so invasive.

Thank you,
M

Because the Spyders are so rare in the cycle world, people are just normally curious. I find the more their curiosity gets to them, the closer they get to the subject of said curiosity. This why I love my motion sensor! Keeps them at an appropriate distance.....close enough to look but not get on!

... We removed the safety card sticker and replaced it with one of these:

Seems this should be offered as an "Option" on all Spyders!

Q1) When was the last time any of you used the "Checklist", and;
Q2) Do you use it every single time before you ride?

Happens also in Europe ...

Happens also over here in Europe :gaah:
For instance, last summer we were riding together in the Netherlands with 6 Spyders (co-forum-member 'Dol' was also part of the gang :D), heading towards a motorcycle meeting. Stopping at a gas-station, we were 'attacked' by a bus-load of Koreans, amongst others 'weaponed' with camera and camcorder, taking (without invitation, neither asking) a seat on our Spyders, until we all let understood our disagreement.

When stopping at gas-stations, parking lots and for instance restaurant, we never leave my wife and I, our Spyders out of sight.
Otherwise, we also have the Ebay 'do not screw with my Can-Am'.

Nevertheless, I think about installing some kind of proximity alarm device in our Spyders :ohyea:

I've had gawkers but no one hopped on until I invited them to, which I do often. Overall t hey are pretty hard to damage so I don't worry about it much.
I have guitars, fiddles, banjos and mandolins that are much more liable to be damaged and people pick them up all the time and try them- but usually they have an instrument as well so at least I figure if they damage mine I take theirs...Then again replacing a 1904 Fairbanks Regent won't be easy so I do keep a close eye on who is trying it.

First week we had our RTS, went to a local eatery. When we came out there was a nice childs footprint right in the middle of the seat and scratches on the seat leather that we still haven't gotten out. Like others, I am more than happy to show off the :spyder:, and will let someone sit on it if asked or if I offer, which I frequently do. I have come out of stores and had crowds gathered around and have seen people sitting on :spyder2:. When that happens I politely ask them to una_ _ the bike. That doesn't happen too much though. I would not even consider sitting on someone elses byke without asking. I would love to have one of those stickers as well. Oh, and as to the use of the safety card before ryding :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:.

Has not been a problem.

In the 2 plus years I have had mine, only once did someone sit on it, that I am aware of and they asked my permission first. It was actually funny. It was the same day I was riding back from Michigan after just purchasing it and I was stopped at a rest area, this man who had to be in his seventies asks me, (along with many other questions) if he could sit on it? I said sure. So he gets on it and yells to his buddy, "Hey Joe, get a picture of me on this machine, will ya? It was enjoyable and fun.
Would I like it if someone was sitting on my machine without my permission? No. That would not make me happy. I mean, it's just not right. It is being disrespectful, IMO. Jerry

You mean your instrement panel sun shade?:roflblack:

:agree: That is actually a much better term for mine now. :roflblack:

Ebay has them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Funn...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Spyderwolf, did you ever find a replacement safety card? I remember reading on one of your posts that you were wanting to get one in case you traded your :spyder:in and needed to install the original card.

Yes, I bought the 2 pack on EBay from a seller out of Atlanta, GA.

I haven't really looked for a replacement safety card yet, as I doubt I will ever need it. I figure the dealer should be able to get one if something strange happens and I do decide to get rid of my Spyder.

I bet if that sticker were there instead; we'd all be using the "checklist" a lot more often.:roflblack:

:agree: I know mine gets a lot more use now than it use to with the safety message on it. Not that I am against safety or anything like that, this just seemed like a more practical use of the space on my Spyder.

Another helpful tip to those of you who allow others to sit on your Spyder like I do at times. Before they get on, tell them it is best to mount it by using the foot pegs. If you ever noticed, most motorcycle riders attempt to mount it from the ground, and this is where I think most of the scratches come from. They do not realize you can stand on the footpegs without the machine going anywhere, so it is best if you tell them first.
