There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Yellow fog light question.

For purposes of increased visibility on the road I would like to swop out the current low beam bulbs (Osram 35w H8) with yellow H8 bulbs. The only ones I seem to find are the Hella Optilux XY series H8 12v/35w Xenon yellow halogen bulb set. Has anyone done this sort of swop out to yellow bulbs as I would appreciate any feedback before I go purchase the bulbs online. Cheers.

I'm running yellow hid's. I like them in the rain

As far as I know, the reason you haven't heard of this swap is because it is illegal to have only yellow headlights at night here in the USA, where most Spyders reside.

Most riding is done in daylight hours. This is when the added visibility of yellow lights makes sense. Yellow, orange or amber headlight covers are widely used in South Africa by motorcyclists and as such the sight or even glimpse of one of these highly visible lights up ahead or in the rearview mirror means " motorbike" to other road users. As headlight covers of this sort are not available or practical on a Spyder RS the next best thing is to install yellow bulbs. Just not sure if the bulbs mentioned in my opening post are the ones I need or whether there are other options that I haven't considered. Therefore my query on the forum.

hmm, I thought you were talking about replacing the fog lights because you mentioned the H8 bulb size. If you are talking about the regular headlights I thought they were H7, I may be wrong though.

Maybe try these from ESI, their not yellow but they sure are very noticeable, way better than the stock headlights which I feel are worthless in daylight. http://www.esicycleproducts.com/spyderdayrunnerpucks.html $149

Somewhere I thought I read the the European/Asian/South African models use what we (U.S.) call the fog lights for their "normal" lights. Can't remember where I saw that though... :dontknow:

Yellow would be used for grabbing the attention of other drivers. I would agree with Justin that Yellow HIDs would be your best bet.

If you are going for visibility through fog that is a different story. The old-school thought of yellow provides better visibility than white light is not true. There is no magic light for cutting through fog.

Yellow fog/driving lights

I found these lights made by Pilot at my local Autozone. The lens matchs the GS/RS Spyder headlights but it looks like it will be an amber color. I can switch these out with standard H3 halogen lights if I don't like the amber. I would mount these like the ESI Lights Campverdefela shows in the above post. At only $39 I don't think I can go wrong.

The problem with those projector type lights is that their not very visible[daytime] from any angle except head on. So I still believe that the standard headlights on the Spyder even with a yellow swap of the H7 or H8 bulbs are not going to give you anything, however HIDs would definitely work. I would also suggest you swap out the fender tip lights for amber LED's, a lot more visible.

I just tried them out, not very good. From the front these would blind you but they didn't put any light on the ground. There was just a light circle with a dark spot in the middle. The package said it would put out an amber light but was a standard white.

I didn't bother mounting them so back to the store they go. :gaah:
